American Ninja
Well my 360 stopped playing 360 games and movies.  Not more than 5 minutes ago I fired up my 360 put in Gears of War(I am working on my Hammer of Dawn achievement) joined a game waiting for others to join then all of a sudden I get the cannot read disk error message. No problem I thought to myself I have gotten this message a couple times before. I will just take out the disc restart the console and I will be good to go or so I thought lol So after restarting the 360 I put Gears backing in closed the tray and it said Reading.... then it said open tray. I thought to myself this is not good. So I thought maybe it was the disk so I put in Rainbow Six Vegas same thing happened. So I put in a DVD movie same thing. But the weird thing is it plays music CDs just fine but it wont play and DVD movies or games. The system starts up just fine and all but it wont play any DVD based games or movies. So I am going to call MS support and see if I can get a replacement. I am glad I got the 2 year extended warranty lol Wish me luck lol Edited February 23, 2007 by American Ninja

American Ninja
Good luck, sounds like a weird problem with your drive. :| Yeah its weird. At least it didn't totally die on me like with other peoples 360s. Every time now when I put a 360 game disk in or movie it says its reading it then instead of booting the game/movie up it say open tray.
w1r3d
i remember when i had trouble with my nes and snes, i had to blow on does damn cartridges to get the dust out and for them to work, but after that the n64 ps ps2 and gc never gave me so much trouble like i see you guys are having with the 360 and the ps3... i currently dont own any console but i remember how the ps was almost undestrutuble, i remember droping a couple of times and it still worked, the ps2 and gc i kept them in the same place for arround 3 or 4 years until i sold them and never ever had a problem with either of them... i guess microsoft and sony pushed it a little too much on this consoles that they are just malfunctionin too fast... Sounds like the dvd drive is gone faulty.
Shadrack
At least it didn't totally die on me like with other peoples 360s. I'm not sure that is a good thing. At least if it died like everyone else's 360, there would be a consistent identifiable problem. With the xbox 360...anything can go wrong . I am still waiting for my 360 to come back to me. I called Microsoft on the 8th of February with my ring of death problem and the 360 has been in transit for most of the month. Microsoft's repair center has had it for 2 days now and no word on what they have done with it and when a fixed/replaced unit will be sent back to me. Be prepared to wait for your 360 for at least a month ;). They used 3 day shipping to send me a box, and then 3 day shipping back to them and another 3 day shipping back to me. At least 9 days total of just shipping (not including Sundays when nothing moves anyway). There should be an option for $25 to get overnight shipping everywhere. I would have gladly paid to upgrade the shipping option for the service center.
American Ninja
Well I just got off the phone with MS support and they are sending a box so it can be sent for repairs. The call the MS support went very well the guy was very friendly but just a tad hard to understand but all in all I give it 5 stars :)
+dnast Subscriber² Posted February 24, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted February 24, 2007 The same thing happened to my first 360 (after owning it less than a week), except I don't remember if it played CDs. I received a box the next day after I called, so since we live in the same state maybe you'll get yours just as quickly. I ended up taking mine back to Best Buy since a new shipment came in the next day, however, so I can't give you an estimate on how long it'll take them to fix it at the closest repair center. Lingwo
Yep my third 360 today kicked the bucket i think, 3 red lights. I was in the middle of crackdown and it packed up. Gotta love Microsoft and their paper mashay 360s. I've only had this one since December. I dread phoning Microsoft support as they're mentally challenged when it comes to the 360 or providing any useful information whatsoever.
stanley porkchop
I have maybe 10 friends who all bought their 360s on launch day, same as me, and none of us have had problems. I know at least 10 more people who've bought one since then, and they haven't run into any trouble, either. It's not fair to say these things are "dropping like flies," or anything like that; it might seem that way, and yeah, there are a lot with problems, but you don't hear about the ones that run fine most of the time. You only hear people complain.
