firefox lacks active x controls support

Yep, thats one of the 'limitations' to FireFox. Some people will say it really isn't a limitation at all :p, what you need to do is try and get an online scanner that uses Java. Trend Micros one comes to mind.

check

http://www.bitdefender.com online scanner. firefox is not compatible with such functions. i still hate to load IE because firefox is faster when compared.

Why don't you use the IE.Tab extension? This way, you can still have Firefox open, but visit a specific site with the Trident engine.

Hmmm I'm quite sure I saw a Firefox extension that allowed you to use ActiveX controls in Firefox.

The main reason why they were excluded from Firefox by default is because they aren't part of the standard from my knowledge.

Also many people sees ActiveX as a big security risk in browsers if malicious homepages exploits a bug in one of your ActiveX controls. (and you have many activeX controls on your computer so the chances are that one of them can be exploited is pretty big)

Yep, it's a netscape plugin that hosts ActiveX controls, can't remember if it's compatible with the latest version, and it can have some very strict security (only load specified CLISD's for example)

Its not true always..

IE displays the image once it completely downloads it & renders the page..

IE7 is fast & sometimes more than firefox imo

IE is also embedded into the system..

As to ActiveX, it's an unneeded technology and Firefox coders made the decision not to support it because it's such a huge security risk. There is a plugin available that would enable it, but I highly recommend against it.
