do 360 games really look that bad on

Recommended Posts

i don't think it will look that bad, but an sdtv will not do the 360 any justice. to get the full experience from the 360, it would be best to use it with an hdtv. but if you're not overly concerned with graphics, i guess you'll be satisfied playing on an sdtv.

hi i remember reading somewhere it said that 360 graphics look horrible on sdtv, i mean, can it really be that bad???

They don't look horrible. In fact Gears of War still looks amazing on a SDTV, but obviously much better on a HDTV.

its pretty good... the only problem with SD is games like dead rising and lost planet. the text is almost illegible on SD...

That's mainly because the developer of said games *Cough*Capcom*Cough* doesn't test on SD TVs well enough.

I played on an SDTV for 7 months before picking up the VGA cable and I always thought it still looked great. Obviously HDTV is far better, but the games still look fantastic on SDTV.

If you don't have an HDTV, I advise you to just get the vga adapter and use your PC monitor.

yeah i thought of it but then where do i input the audio? my pc speakers plug "in" to sound card to work. and 360 audio white and red jacks cant go in pc speakers.

Get a female 1/8" to RCA female adapter.

Or actually, get a female RCA to 1/8" adapter and connect it to your line in on your PC.

The official MS VGA cables actually come with a female RCA to 1/8" adapter so you can plug it into your line in.

And like most others said, the 360 looks good on SDTV and great on HDTV.

I've compared the quality with my Sony Bravia 32" HDTV, and my 28" Samsung SDTV.

First of all, there is a difference - quite a big one actually, however SDTV's will still give you the 'wow' effect on many games.

As mentioned previously, a handful of games has problems with the text and how it appears on SDTV screens. This is just a small number however.

I have always thought about this too. I could either play on a 55inch sdtv or a 19 inch Dell monitor in 720p. Wouldn't most people think to play on the bigger screen even with loss quality?

720p anyday.

Hell, my dorm mates share a single 20" tube for 4 player Halo 2 sessions.

I actually was surprised how well the xbox 360 looked on just a regular old TV. Some games that are widescreen only will be problematic because not only are you fighting against poor full screen resolution, but the game is only outputting to half the screen :/.

And, as was stated, text in some games can be impossible to read. Developers are simply not targeting SDTVs and the 4:3 aspect ratio anymore.

You'll still enjoy the experience and I believe you will think the graphics will look better then the xbox or ps2 graphics did from last gen... but it won't do the xbox 360 full justice.

At first I would play on my monitor 9 times out of 10, but after about 8 months or so I started playing on my 32" SDTV more often. I missed the HD, but it felt good to get out of that desk chair and sit back on my couch.

My only big problem with going to SDTV was that I was so used to playing my games in 720p that after playing on my SDTV for a while my eyes would hurt from straining to see what I normally would see on my monitor. I've since purchased an HDTV, so thankfully I don't have that issue anymore. :)

I'm still using an SDTV (unfortunately), and most of my games still look alright. Gears of War still looks amazing and even the single player in Rainbow Six Vegas impressed me. I thought having a standard def television would be an impediment to playing online, but honestly, I seem to be playing fairly well. I have no trouble spotting opponents in GRAW, and I can hold my own in Vegas.

The biggest culprit is - as previously mentioned - the text size. I'm playing through Dead Rising right now, and a lot of the text is near impossible to read. My sister actually stopped playing Gears of War because she was getting a headache from the small text.

Its pretty on SDTV, tho I didn't think the dashboard looked all that good going from composite. Most games are fine tho except those designed for HDTV only.

I'd use your monitor tho rather than your TV :p

I played on a 20" CRT before I got my 32" Sharp LCD HDTV and its 100x better.

As for the dashboard, the normal dash skin sucks... It doesn't really bring out the colors. Try the "Glass theme", its colors are much more vibrant. It actually makes my screen "glow" with all the colors.

I haven't seen Gears of War on a non-hdtv because all my buddies have hdtv's. I'm sure it cant be that bad.
