andrew_f
Hey, right... my VGA cable for the 360 should be here tommorow so that once I get my new monitor I can use it straight away. Quick question though. Does it run at 1024x768 (my current monitor's resolution?) and if so is it an improvement over my SD telly? Cheers :)
bangbang023 Veteran Posted February 28, 2007 Veteran Share Posted February 28, 2007 Yes it does run at that res and it will definitely be an improvement.
andrew_f
Wow... does newoin give out an award for the fastest reply? If so, you've won! Great help mate - thanks, very good news indeed :) Also, as 1024x768 isn't widescreen is there anyway I could letter-box it so it becomes kinda-widescreen? I think that depends on the game. But there's an option in the dashboard that let's you choose between widescreen and normal monitors. Maybe that could change something. Lingwo
I think most games will letterbox it for you. Some games however do not, PGR3 didn't it used to stretch it but i believe a patch fixed that.
andrew_f
Hmmm, just had a look on the TV and it makes zero-difference as far as I can tell. Anyway it's not a big issue, cheers guys for the quick help :)

Yes, choose "normal" and it should letter box for you. On my 1280*1024 monitor, I run at 1024*768 because PGR3 doesn't letter box properly at 1280*1024. Olemus
Yeah it letterboxes games, and they look alot better than a SDTV would.
Shadrack
Definitely looks better then SDTV. The differences between VGA and Component on my LCD HDTV are really slim though. Component seems brighter and more contrasted while VGA seems to have more color depth and more anti-aliased. I keep switching back and forth because I can't decide which one looks better. I think the VGA does, but it is pretty dang marginal. The on-screen text looks better w/ VGA then component.
+dnast Subscriber² Posted March 1, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted March 1, 2007 ^ Heh, yeah I just went back to component with mine. It's funny that most people say their games look too washed out with VGA while mine seemed to be too over-saturated for my tastes. I couldn't get it looking normal enough with the regular TV settings so I just went back to component. Other than the colors I didn't see a difference, anyway. Shadrack
I think that the FPS is higher on component then VGA when comparing 720p component to 1280x720 VGA. That could just be my HDTV LCD doing slightly more processing on the VGA connectors then the component ones. I swear that the image on component looks more aliased then with VGA, but it could just be that the colors are brighter so the edges stand out more. i dunno... Huleboeren
Normal tube TVs run 1024x768 too - atleast my Philips do when I hook it up to my computer..

No. Normal tube TVs run at most 480 lines interlaced through s-video and maybe coax but not 768. Your computer may be set to 1024x768 but it is probably downscaled before displaying. Can you read any of the text that you would normally be able to read on a computer monitor at that resolution?
