acies
any word of a demo being released for this game? im hesitant to buy it b/c ive heard so many mixed reviews... im not sure it's a game i could get into, even though i play mostly fps's I wouldn't recommend it, unless you LOVE both RPGs and FPS. I enjoy FPS, but I didn't feel it with this game. But I am not a huge fan of RPGs.

lunamonkey
one thing i remember from the early descriptions is that you will be able to use vehicles a bit. too bad it is not true :( yeah, they said the vehicles would break down, run out of fuel, be repairable. ... also cut sleeping ... and eating for hunger (rather than energy). ... and they cut the aliens, robot helpers, teleportation (more sci-fi side of things) ... and the density of the grass / flowers / trees. I'm sure they said they had some unique tree rendering engine. Looks pretty "prefab" to me. ... size / area of playable game is way smaller than described. ... building interiors under sized and detailed what early hints said. ... picking up any item to use as a weapon / distraction for npcs. ... and I don't remember them delivering on their 6 months of press before launch, with stories from in the zone. (Mock stories of course) ... "all russian dialog".. has been cut to "selected Russian dialog for npcs". .... The thing is.... I agree with the cuts, they are boring / pointless / unecessary features. Who wants to sleep in a game and watch their diet? It's not the ****ing Sims.
mormat
yeah, they said the vehicles would break down, run out of fuel, be repairable....skipped... lunamonkey, where did you get THAT all? Could you please give me the reference to the source? I've never heard of those things but drivable vehicles. About the vehicles - developers said a year ago that they have to refuse driving vehicles because of influence on gameplay. They said that there would be no possibility to drive through the zone full of anomalies and to stay alive. Possibly there is the way to unlock "driveability" but I don't know how to do that

Ayepecks
Sort of, the model is updated and looks more like it's real life counterpart. Got a screen? :)

And no I believe vehicles were cut due to time. As per the rest the developers wanted to get the game out. Besides vehicles would kind of suck in the game as it is. Its not big enough to warrant them. The ont thing I want so so so bad is a non controlled drop helicopter so that when I am in town I can get in it to "fast travel" to another place. I find it rediculous that for small quest you have a time limit to travel back to complete the quest for next to no reward. Getting a helicopter ride or something to make it quicker seems an ideal solution. Hell dont even show the trip just use it as a sort of teleport mechanism to get to places you have mapped out. lunamonkey
lunamonkey, where did you get THAT all? Could you please give me the reference to the source? I've never heard of those things but drivable vehicles. Sorry, for late reply... but basically read the last 5 (edit..or 6 :/ ) years of PcZone.co.uk and you should be ok. I've been following the game since before it was officially announced. This is a list I made, not a published list of removed features. Remember, some of these were removed for the greater good.. no one _really_ wants to sleep in game in a safe place so they don't get man-handled by a mutant. I remember looking at screens of this alongside Mafia screens in the Autumn of 2001. :o
lunamonkey
Ever since meeting up with one of the mutants that emits a high pitch noise. (I think it's a mind control one).... I've had ear ache, on and off. My speakers (z5400) weren't even that loud. Just on normal IIRC. Anyone else had this?

Ayepecks
I highly recommend you go to tweakguides.com, go to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. guide and read. I also recommend adding the -noprefetch (I think it is) line to your shortcut... did WONDERS for me.
Googintosh
Upcoming Patches Information about patch 1.0002 and 1.0003.As you might know a patch is planned to be released this week. This will be the patch version 1.0002, so far there has been little information to what that patch will contain, and there has been a lot of worries if the saved games will be corrupt after updating. Well don't worry, we can now offer some news about what will be included in the patch, but before reading, do note that this list is subject for change, things might have been added/removed but basically this is what patch 1.0002 contains. Preliminary second patch changelist: - Added console command 'sv_listmaps' to view the list of maps queue - Fixed bugs with player's character health in Multi-player - Removed standing dead bodies upon connecting to the game - Fixed inventory items placing system (Free for all and Team play modes) - Changed the enumeration of the game's version - Added the region detection to the auto-patch system - Fixed the crash in some localizations with using numpad - Fixed the crash upon making the screeshot to a saved game - Added the support for additional mouse buttons (now they can be binded to certain actions) - Fixed crash on level "Military warehouse". - Fixed NPC spawning on player's eyes. Then you are fighting "Freedom" on their base, there was NPC spawning near bridge. - Decreased a-life reaction time. Now a-life will spawn new NPC more seldom. Also NPC movement speed decreased, then NPC walk on different level, then player. * The second patch will not erase your saves. As the observant can see there will be no savegame converter (converting your 1.0000 saves to be compatible with newer versions of stalker) this was promised for the next patch (1.0002) but is not in the list. We also have news about some of the items worked on in the future patch version 1.0003. This patch will probably contain a fix for all the ATI users that are having problems, and a few other optimizations. Here is the list of items so far. AI - Added avoiding dynamic obstacles for NPCs. - Added enemy priority function – fixes incorrect NPC reaction on player’s attack. - Changed the second part of the enemy search algorithm – having lost the player, the NPCs will no longer be baffled. - Added correct reaction on shots and loud sounds coming from the player (only) on close distPerf- Dual core optimization. - 10-15% FPS increase.S increase.crG- Added new game mode – freeplay; activated after the end of the game.end of the game.of the game. - Added the possibility for any character will be able to go to any smart-terrain. - Fixed the ultra-intense vibration of the grass. - All monsters drag now the Physicstly. Smigit
until the converter arrives I won't be patching (seems to be in 1.0003) . To be honest I was enjoying the game but for whatever reason I havent touched it in 2 weeks. I guess it lost its pull on me. I'll have to get back into it but im preferring CnC3 atm.
