S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - GOLD

Recommended Posts

Rumor on the official forum is that the patch is getting delayed because of the issue regarding graphical assets taken directly from other commercially released games.

"Most Users: 7.4"

So, 7.4/10 isn't that crash hot is it.

Still far better than what you're claiming it to be. You make it out to be the worst piece of sh*t ever made. 7.4 is a respectable average. 80's is even better, which is what the average review is in.

And as for sites with more reader ratings:

IGN is 8.3

GameSpot is 8.6

1Up is 8.2

And I could go on ;)

may not be, but it still means its a pretty good game. I bet you've played and enjoyed games which have had less than 7.4 rating.

Well, It's not supposed to be the random no-brains shooter. It never was.
Wich is terribly sad. FPS with a touch of rpg shouldn't be called a fps.

Im about to install this game - I have been playing it at friends house but the weapons just seemed weird to me, its more accurate to shoot when not in ironsight :s

Any good mods that will fix this and make the overall singleplayer experience better? :)

  • 3 weeks later...

According to the moderators and posters on the GSC forum, [the Russian version of] patch 1.1002 is out today. The preliminary changelog is as follows:

* Added: Servercommand sv_listmaps to show the maps added in the map-queue.

* Fixed: Error with the player-health in multiplayer-mode.

* Fixed: Standing corpses when connecting to the game.

* Fixed: The drag&drop-function in the inventory-screen.

* Updated: Game version.

* Added: Country detection in the auto-patch-system.

* Fixed: Crash when using the numpad.

* Fixed: Crash when taking a screenshot while saving the game.

* Added: Support for mice with additional buttons.

* Fixed: Crash in the "military warehouse" area.

* Fixed: AI Spawnpoints close to the player.

* Improved: A-Life system. NPCs will respawn and move slower.

From one of the mods...

The second patch was finished, except for testing, when I posted the change lists. The developers have been working on patches 3 and 4 since then.

The idea is that the patch was released so late not because it took a long time to develop, but because it took a long time to test. Other patches have been in development meanwhile. They will also need to be tested.

yeah might try get back into it. Prob look for a mod/trainer to remove the encumberance cap but. Annoys me no end that you can go from being able to run 10km easy and then you add 100gramms to tip your weight over and you can barely walk. It really doesn't scale well at all their system.

I am quite liking it. Fells like the love child of Oblivion and Fallout, wich is great. Sometimes the firefights are a little too hard. I was expetinc a better rpg elements implementation, like Deus Ex or System Shock 2.

I'm underwhelmed. The whole system is awkward. I've already failed three missions trying to find my first one. Or accidentally finished three missions finding my fourth.

It's a nice distraction until a real cool pc game comes along, but in terms of gameplay. I think it pales in comparison to something like FEAR.

The whole GUI is wacky. I can't even find myself on the mini-map. I guess I am the unknown point in the center? The inventory? Three keys to 'super crouch'!

If you are going to be realistic about encumberence, let everything, or nothing be realistic. If I open-up an AK-47 into someones chest, and he stumbles off, something is off.

Everything is at the max, and I'm still waiting to see the graphics that are supposed to 'Wow' me. HL2 still has better water.

If anybody is waiting for this, wait some more. Unless you want something to fool around with until the 'next big thing' comes out.

Save your money and get the FEAR expansion pack and wait for the big 'Bio'

I'm lost when people say that a game in which your view is first person, and you SHOOT things, should not be called a First Person Shooter. Clearly it has more elements to it, but that doesn't stop it from being an FPS.

I have to agree with curme though, I really thought this game was lacking. Perhaps it gets better if you can get further in the game, but it didn't have the feel I was looking for.. graphics were okay, but the lighting was terrible in terms of the advanced settings. Seemed like it added very little to the scene, at a huge performance price. Definitely had some good ideas going with the RPG elements, and I was certainly interested in the story from the beginning video, but you basically got tossed into the game world from the beginning with little idea of where to go. I guess I don't have the patience to hunt through all those areas.
