S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - GOLD

I actually went and purchased the game from EB Games (Good refund policy) and this game totally sucks, the graphics would have been good for 2002, the game play is "mental", that is the best way I can describe it. This title gets a 1/90 of a star out of 5 IMHO.

Well, I'm not sure what you expected, But this wasn't going to be a cookie-cutter FPS, We knew that even 5 years ago :p

As long as people remember there's alot more to games than Graphics. People seem to forget that with the engine-rush companies are in.

you mus not be good at FPS games and or realistic FPS games that take place i n a real environment and or have a good realistic feel to it as intended. stalker is about immersion and realism for the most part. and the graphics are ther to represent a post apocalyptic area and i would say you just cant take the heat so maby it was wise for you to get out of the kitchen.

Unfortunately I have not gotten to play it much since I first tried it, but what about a Anti-Radiation Kit and/or some Vodka?

Man this game is hard! Or is it me because i'm used to FPS games where I can rush in like an idiot and do the rambo carnage :ninja:

F6 Quick Save is probably one of the most important keys that you have to remember. Like that fat dude from the diabetes ads, check your blood, and check it often? Save your game, and save it often!

My only complaint so far is the weight system. I'm always carrying over 50KG but I got nothing really! 1 pistol + 1280 bullets :D, 1 AK74 + 300 bullets, the same cheap armor from the beginning, alot of bandages, 3 med kits, vodka cause itz goot for yu!, 1 artifact, a few bread and some pudding/jello/soup or whatever it is :p,.... think thats about it?

well rainman GDC made the game so you could play it as any style of FPS ya want or game ya want. if you wish to do and be sneaky or just a Doom like run and gun ya can. so try different methods

the Reason for enemy taking alot of hits is for the fact it is more realistic as you may only be wounding them but not giving a concrete fatal blow. Developers for stalker put alot of time in to things like this and physics and heck i remember reading an interview stating they had actually calculated real world physics and gravity and objects by weight and height and pressure and all the mathematical #s used in the real world that we see everyday so the game would be more realistic, stalker is about immersion and realism.

i find it funny that you use realistic and taking a lot of bullets in the same sentence.

Wow.

This has to be the most unoptimized game ever. I can't even play it on minimum settings with above 10 FPS... and I can play HL2, F.E.A.R., Far Cry, Doom III, Quake 4, and pretty much every other FPS game I can think of at 30FPS constant with everything maxed out -- even AA and AF.

If a patch isn't released soon I'm returning this.

also make sure you're not wearing any artifacts that cause radiation (Jellyfish, for example).

thanks! i;ve finally found anti radiation artifact. but before vdka helped me. so silly that i didn't noticed before.

as rainman i also have the same 'too much weight problem'. and my character gets tired very very quickly :p

The pistol is useless. Drop it and the ammo too.

Or most of the ammo then, you dont need 1300 bullets :D

I got 2 machine guns, shotgun and a sniper rifle. Plus some other vital stuff and I can carry them :p

As long as you have below 50kg worth of stuff in your inventory you can run for quite a long time. But once its even 1kg over 50 then you get tired quickly if you run and thats when those cans of soft drink help. Carrying too much ammo puts on a lot of weight, it's not like other games where ammo either doesn't weigh or weighs the same no matter how much you have, in STALKER every box of ammo adds weight, so having 1000 rounds of pistol ammo will weigh you down a lot, so I usually tend to only have about 300 rounds on me.

Whoo, this game is cool! Even cooler than I had expected :) And it runs pretty well with graphical settings on maximum.

The game's graphics aren't bad, but not incredible either. The game does set quite the atmosphere though! Never seen anything like it before.

There must be something wrong with your PC or your lighting is set to dynamic :p

Even 3 year old machines should run it @minimum :p

My review:

logonp8.jpg

So, it's finally out, and I am loving it.

I've barely started playing, only about an hour and a half in, but already I'm seeing way more content and acerage than I can reasonably handle. The game looks like it is going to be huge.

The gameplay style is an interesting mix, the main body of an FPS, with an RPG style quest/trading aspect, and a healthy plot. The atmosphere is thick, and I'm pretty much paranoid while playing the game, wondering if there are 'anomalies' around, constantly looking around. The environmental sounds are a huge part of the game, and it's one of those times I'm really glad to have a surround setup, to hear things creeping up on me, twigs breaking, etc.

There is no room for anyone to play Rambo here, as I found out on my first combat mission. You die easily, and need to remember that. Working with other stalkers, raher than against them makes everything easier, even if you might not get as much 'loot.'

The ambient AI, and interaction looks to be very well executed. Your actions affect how other stalkers treat you, and can hurt, or help you. There is a real, lived in feeling, watching some rookie stalkers around a campfire, playing guitar, smoking, and talking.

The graphics, too, are impressive. A real, gritty world exists around you, with very intricate textures, and very impressive lighting effects. Now, it won't win the award for best graphics of the year, but it certainly looks good.

I can't reccomend it enough.

The more I play it the better it gets, I like how the atmosphere changes in the labs. The lab levels is what Doom3 should have been more like.

Yep. Gotta agree with some of the reviewers there. It gets better and better. :D
