YCbCr Question

Recommended Posts

I'm gonna buy myself a 4:3 CRT TV for my room soon it says it comes with YCbCr (YUV) component connection that supports progressive scan. If I plug a game console like a PS3 with component will this mean it does 480p ? or will this mean mean slightly better image due to component connection no real different in the quality with all the 480i/p stuff ?

as long as the TV supports 480p/progressive. I have a 4 or 5 year old sony wega with component input but it does not support 480p. So as long as your TV supports it you will see an improvement of video quality.

Which set are you going to get? Most tubes can't do progressive scan.

It says it does it, but I'm very skeptical. Few tubes do progressive scan.

few tubes do progressive? Really? If this was 1998 or something. All the TVs i've seen lately, from 19" up to 36" all do progressive. Or so they claim. I haven't seen a TV lately that doesn't even have at least 480P component inputs. My older (2004 no name brand model) 19" that i had and hated had progressive scan mode.

Most sets don't come with even 480p support unless they are HD. Even the SD sets with component inputs usually only do 480i.
