help Req: correcting Com Surrogate error

hi,i have windows vista business installed on my pc and things are very smooth and flowy,but time after time while browsing folders of videos the thumbnails of certain videos dont display and i get a Com Surrogate error again and again. this happens only on certain videos not to mention i cant play those videos as well. After burning the same files to a DVD when i try to access it the windows explorer crashes.

my system specs are

AMD athlon 64 3000+

1 Gb Ram

Nvidia 6100 128 mb(on board and shared)

Are you running nero 7 lite? if so, nero half installs a huge bunch of directshow video filters which screw up video playback and thumbnail creation in DirectShow based programs (WMP,WMM,WDVDM)

How to get rid of it? easy.

Use directshow filter manager http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm

and remove all filters that start with "Nero"

if you dont have nero... try unisntalling all codecs you have installed and try vista codec pack

I found the problem occured when I uninstalled codecs, as if Vista didn't completely unregister them and was still trying to access them even though they were gone.

The fix (if you can call it that) was to reinstall the codecs I uninstalled.

I do have Nero Premium Installed , anyways will try & let you guys know , thnx

nope doesnt help , but yeah even i got the feeling that it is something related to either nero or some codecs

Have you the latest Version of Nero? I had this problem before i updated Nero i think the latest version is 7.7.5.1. Since I updated (last week) and havent seen this error.

Dang found the problem , it was in xvidcore.dll , just uninstalled XviD & put in FFDShow to do its job , now things are smooth & Sexy .
