Archive bookmarks and restore it on another PC

Recommended Posts

On my laptop (win platform) every day what I used to do bookmarks --> Organize bookmarks --> File --> Export --> Save bookmarks as its default name (bookmarks.html) to the external hard disk,,,,I guess I am doing the right thing to archive the Favorites

I tried to restore that archive from my external hard disk to my desktop,,,,,what I did :

bookmarks --> Organize bookmarks --> File --> Import --> ?bookmarks.html? from the external hard disk,,,, I guess I am doing the right thing to archive the Favorites

1- But I could not see the same files and folders that I have got on my laptop ?!!! starnge

Yes I do not have same Firefox extensions of both PCs,,,do that create problem ? I believe no.

2- If I want to redo the above process again (to make sure that if i will get same result as option 1 or not) , but before that how can I delete the bookmarks ? (in IE, we can got to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator or any other username\Favorites,,,and delete all files and folders manually ),,,,in FireFox where should I go to delete them manually ? do I need to delete tonly from :

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\si5y3nou.default\bookmarks.html ?

3- Internet Explorer I can save C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Favorites,,manually ? Is there similar procedure in the Firefox ?

Note: I am aware of http://www.foxmarks.com/ this is an online backup, which does not fit my case.

Going to give you a link that explains it very well.

Profile management This is where all your settings, bookmarks (assuming you have not changed the location),extensions, themes and so on, are located. There in the link it explains locating your profile (again where everything is located), how to create a new profile, backing up your profile, and Moving an existing profile or restoring a backed up profile. That should answer all your questions. Let me know if it helps.

Edit: fixed typo

A relatively new extension that backs up and restores anything from a file to your whole profile, and I think is worthy of a mention is FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension), which I use and think is very useful. You can backup whatever data you wish and then in a new profile (install FEBE first) restore whatever you wish - you can actually select what extensions or other files you want.

Use the latest version 5.0 beta, it is better than the 4.0.4 version.
