Microsoft Announces 512MB Memory Card, 150MB Arcade Limit

Recommended Posts

I can't help but feel it is way overpriced. A 4gb flash drive on newegg costs less. And that isn't even a cheap one.

I concur 110%. Not like I am expecting a 4GB flash drive, but damn, at least keep it comparable to the market itself.

The fact that it is branded and has a fancy enclosure is simply just no excuse to rip people off.

They should have just dropped the core and lost the limit all together. The core is so lame anyway, who is buying it? I'll bet anyone who bought it regrets it and will buy a hard drive anyway.

For some reason Cores are all they've been shipping to my local Wal-mart recently

Well that ones not particully "new" anyway. It may or may not have been officially confirmed but I think it was generally accepted that this was happening.

Yes, the larger Arcade limit was rumoured for a while, but as I linked in the OP, it was thought to have been extended to 250MB (and as high as 450MB). So this 150MB figure is new.

I was looking around today and there was a heap of Cores in stock at a lot of stores, which is weird since hardly anyone was selling the Core system last year here. The Core system is not too bad, but the lack of memory really cripples it too much if you ever want to use XBL.

Some people don't care about online play, I personally am not a big fan of playing online, and I don't like MMOs. If you don't really want to do any of the stuff you can with XBL, then getting a Core works out for you better, with the bigger memory unit you can also try out XBLA from the sounds of it.

Or later on if you didn't have enough money you can get the HDD. They might and should upgrade the HDD also, to 80GB or 120GB for $99, and drop the 20GB alltogether. Or cut it's price to $59 so they can get rid of any they have in stock.

Yeah there are people who don't use online multiplayer, but it's a shame since I think that's one of the best features of the Xbox series.

The problem with buying a new HDD later is that it would increase the price to the level of the premium bundle, except you don't get the extras that come with it. I mean it would be good if they could lower the price of the HDD, but seeing as they just introduced a more expensive memory card, any price drop on the HDD would push it way too close to the price of the memory unit.

It'd be good if they could get a port of quake 2 or something onto live. In any even the 150MB limit opens up the possability for alot of the more popular 90's titles to be ported.

Buy Quake 4. :p The bonus disc has Quake 2 on it.

But I do see where you're coming from in your argument.

The 20GB could be dropped or just have a special one time price of $59.99 to get rid of any they have in stock. While this would bring it close to the price of the new memory unit, it's the only way to sell them all and make way for a bigger one at $99.99.

To get Video marketplace to really work well, and later on with IPTV+DVR features if they decide to add any (which would be great), you NEED a bigger HDD, even 80GB isn't enough really, 120GB is just cutting it for a good DVR device.

But you could also say that they want you to use Media Center to do DVR and so on, which works out good also, but not everyone has a fancy media center PC, so adding some basic DVR features to the 360 would really help.

Hmmm, I bought a core and got a 64MB Unit, if I can get broadband when we move house which I doubt I'll try to trade it in and get a HDD before the new unit comes out so I can get more, but I also would want to wait for the bigger HDD :s :s :s

Without broadband I really don't need a HDD so I guess it all rests on that.

120GB would be great, but I doubt Microsoft would only charge $99 for it since they wouldn't be making much profit, if any. I would say closer to $149 if it ever comes out. They could also put an 80GB at $99, which wouldn't be too bad.

Ohh I already own the game twice (from 97 and again with quake 4) but still itd be nice to get some games of that calibre out even if they arent Quake 2 specifically.

We should get more and more games on XBLA like Quake2 in time, now with the limit going up to 150MB, the devs can release more and do more that they couldn't with the 50MB limit.
