A Question about 360 Warranties

Recommended Posts

I know this is similar to this topic, but I am asking a different question.

I have two warranties for my recently-defunct Xbox 360: A two-year warranty with Best Buy, and a one-year warranty with Microsoft.

Should I send my xbox in to Microsoft for repairs, or should I return it to Best Buy and get a new xbox?

I'd rather do the first option, because I BELIEVE Best Buy will only exchange it once, I am not sure.

So if this happens again, I'd be screwed.

Thanks.

If you can walk into Best Buy with it and walk out with a new console, I'd do that. The MS repair center sucks now, especially since they don't do next-day shipping or send you a box anymore. The repair center is going to be around 2 weeks at a minimum.

My Bestbuy has been pretty awesome about it. They have seen so many that it seems like the people that work there sympathize with you. I have been through 4 360's. The 2 yr warranty is great, and you can exchange 360's as many times as you want!

You must really abuse your 360 if you've gone through 4 already =/

^ Sometimes you have to buy a new warranty after exchanging something with the replacement plan - that is unless you don't want to keep it under warranty at Best Buy anymore. I don't recall how they determine whether you have to or not.

Well...it's better than buying another for the full price.

So I'll have to transfer all my saves and my gamertag and crap?

Or do I trade in ONLY the actual unit, and not the hdd and stuff?

Only trade in the unit. The box is faulty, not the stuff with all your data on it. Only trade in everything else if they explicitly ask you to.

At my bestbuy they switch out the hard drive for you. You just have to ask them when you exchange, and they'll take your old console hd and give it back to you and send the new hd back with the broken console.

If your going to trade it at Best Buy you will have to give everything back no ifs and buts about it....

This is true - Also if you do the Microsoft route you are likely to get someone elses refurbished piece of crap.

Uh, no? I'm on my third 360 and I baby my electronics. All have been in an extremely well ventilated area and not beaten up in the slightest. Yet, my launch console and it's replacement both died on me. My third one? Probably on the way out. Random lockups fairly frequently now, a lot like my launch one, and dirty disc errors. Don't get me wrong, I like the 360 itself, but the build quality is absolutely abysmal. When my launch one died, I was still in warranty, so they did the whole "overnight you a box, send you a replacement". I got a brand new console and liked their service, so I bought the extended. Imagine my surprise when my replacement bit the dust and their entire policy had changed. I had to pack and ship the damn thing myself, and yes, I was extremely ****ed. I paid 400 bucks for my console, bought 3 more wireless controllers, and I now have 12 games. I think I've thrown enough money at Microsoft, the least they could do is have the decency to spend some money on boxes for the people shafted by their terrible build quality.

Tony, you and I both have the pwnage monitor. Beautiful, eh?

Well earlier I switched out my xbox for a new one at Best Buy, and they let me keep my HD.

Thanks for whoever convinced me to go the BB-way. haha.

I am of the opinion that the xbox 360 hardware failure rate is higher than your average consumer electronic.

^ Yep, I baby my 360 and its games and I've gone through 4 of them, also. Only two of them were messed up enough to be considered unplayable, but I didn't go back to console gaming to go through daily lock-ups and disc-read errors. I have a PC for that.
