What # 360 are you on?

I was listening to the audio from the Microsoft bloggers breakfast the other day and heard one blogger say he was on his eighth console. The man asked why there was such a high defect rate, and what Microsoft was doing to help solve the problem. What Microsoft responded with seemed kind of shifty, they went around his question and said that his situation was isolated and this defect rate is reasonable for a piece of hardware this complicated. I'm pesonally on my fourth console, and my first one was bought in June of last year as a present to myself. The first one died 72 hours in and Gamestop swapped it out no questions asked. The second one died a mere four weeks later and the man at Gamestop went ahead and did the same process even though he wasn't supposed to. I had a long run that stretched from July 06' - Jan 07' on my third, but on Jan 2nd those 3 red quadrants started flashing. This time they told me they would swap it out through the mail. (this was a horrible experience that took a month to complete and you don't get a new product sent to you first as Nintendo does). The new one finally came and has been running for 45 days.(My console is in a well ventilated place, horizontally and is rarely on more than 4 hours straight except on the weekends)

I'm curious as to what # everyone else is on? and when they got their first one?

Hmmm perhaps I am just playing way to much, well I guess its good news the problem isnt as bad as I thought. (the DVD drive in my newest one is a plus, quiet and the one in my comp.)

I'm on my 5th. :( It's working absolutely great (and quiet) though for what it's worth.

Here's the rundown:

- My first 360's drive died on me a few days after I bought it in early Feb '06. It wouldn't read games or even DVDs.

- My second one worked somewhat but after about 3 weeks it would lock up at least once a day and I decided to exchange it right before my 30 days were up to return it to Best Buy.

- I got my 3rd one in early March '06 and it lasted me up until January '07. (Y) That one didn't die on me, but I started getting disc-read errors on a regular basis which made single player games almost unplayable because I would randomly get sent to the dashboard without getting a chance to save. So I waited until the holiday return season was over and used my Product Replacement Plan at Best Buy to get another one.

- My 4th one lasted about a month. (N) I finally went out and bought an HDTV and then later that night I got the RROD which really ****ed me off. I eventually got the system to work, but it wouldn't recognize my HDD or memory unit - so of course, I exchanged it.

- My 5th and current one seems to be running smooth (knock on wood) and I am happy with it. It's only locked up on me or given me a disc read error a couple of times so far since I got it. Overall the general performance is better than all of my previous 360s, so I do feel a lot better about the product. I'm just thankful for Best Buy and that my then fiancee convinced me to buy a Product Replacement Plan from the start. I don't think I could've dealt with MS customer service that many times.

So all in all, I've only had 2 truly broken 360s, but I couldn't see myself dealing with the issues I had with the other 2 systems for long. It's funny. I really baby the system and it's weird that I've run into very different problems every time.

It has to be said that out of the people I know personally that own Xbox 360s, I only know of 2 that have had problems with theirs. I thought I had the worst luck with 360s, but I guess the guy on his 8th system would have something to say about that.

Got mine in (I think) Mar. 06, and it's still going strong - not even one disc error in a year. Having far better luck with it than I did Xbox/PS2....so far.

I'm on my second one because my first one was a defect from day one. Yes, the first time I turned it on, the beautiful red lights congratulated me on my purchase!

My second has been working great, thankfully :)

i'm still on my first (thank goodness)

funny how microsoft says that the defective consoles are just isolated incidents, when as of this response nearly half of the people who have responded have gone through at least one system. either neowin users are really unlucky, or microsoft has some serious production issues (i'd bet on the latter).

On #1 since January 2006. This baby can go all day without problems (as experienced the last 2 days in a row, between NCAA quadruple headers on MCE Extender and hours long games of Halo 2).

i'm on number 2 since february 23, 2007, console was manufactured 10/06. i don't know if it's going to turn into a bigger problem than i think it is, but, just today, i've noticed blue-ish lines on the screen when i turned on the 360. a cold boot seems to have fixed (albeit probably temporarily) it ... suggestions? should i take it back and have it replaced?
