bangbang023 Veteran Posted March 19, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted March 19, 2007 Looking at shots online, it would appear I have the Samsung, though I didn't find shots of the BenQ drive. edit: Ok, post above me just appeared. I have the Samsung.
Sniper101
My friend has been through 4 360's since the launch date :(. I told him to give up and so he clamed defeat and is now back on the good old Xbox :D. Shame about your little 360 bangbang, glad you had a good warranty on it (Y) to get a new one. It's still out of order the Microsoft will continue to deny any problems with the consoles.

My 2nd replacement had one and I didn't notice any significant difference.

My 2nd replacement had one and I didn't notice any significant difference. Looking at the shots, I'm almost positive my first one had a Hitachi in it. I remember looking at the pattern on the tray and thinking "that's just one odd design".
r47xdy88
Good luck buddy I hope this one lasts you a while! I'm on my fourth since June 06, But my new one appears to be going strong. I have the Hitachi drive and it looks wierd but it sure is quiet and the spin down is much better sounding than my previous 3.

It scared me into getting the extended guarantee from BB lol and that made things a lot easier yesterday.

I went after one at launch and the only reason I finally got one is because I was on a post-launch preorder list (contradiction of course, but that was the name of it) at Toys'R'Us. Oh well. I don't mind refurbished crap as long as I get working consoles. I do wish my launch one had just survived lol.
Razorwing
I honestly won't buy an 360 untill all this stuff is covered up by Microsoft.
Spider_Man
I'm probably applying a curse to my 360 but i got mine last august and it's run perfect since the day I bought it.
LOC Veteran Posted March 21, 2007 Veteran Share Posted March 21, 2007 Just wondering, whats the manufacturing date of it?It seems like the luck of the draw though, as I know a few people with 360's (and had them for about a year) and none of them has died yet anyway. Hopefully the replacement will last you longer. btw - I have a feeling the next podcast will have a section about 360's dying. Why would we mention it on the next podcast???? WelshBluebird
Why would we mention it on the next podcast???? cos chris hosts it? lol. ;) Was kind of a sarcy comment as some people I know if something breaks then they complain about it for ages (even if they've got it replaced for free), and so I could imagine some people going on about it if they had a podcast. Windam
I hear BenQ has a much quiter drive than the other manufacturers
LunarFalcon
I just got mine back yesterday after it's 2nd repair, and it is still the original unit, built in 9/2005. It also still has a hitachi drive in it. I can't believe after breaking and being repaired twice, that it hasn't been replaced, or at least updated with the BenQ drive. This doesn't make me very confident that it will stay in working order. It's not any quieter than before I sent it off
kylejn
I've had mine since launch, and have had no problems until yesterday, when Castlevania seemingly killed my machine. Needless to say, I'm ****ed. At least this gives me an excuse to buy the Elite.
Shadrack
Welcome to the "my xbox 360 died" club, Bangbang. I haven't read the thread but whoever is making the argument: "It is still a very small percentage..." all i can say is, "YOU'RE NEXT BUDDY!" My estimate on the number of 360's we will see on EBay in 10 years.... umm how about 0 because none of them work anymore. I'm telling people who ask me if they should get one to not bother at this point. MS can't produce reliable hardware and this proves it once again. At the very least get a 2 year warranty with the system. I wonder how the PS3 and Wii will be doing this time next year as far as failure rate is concerned.
