So, my console's dead... what do I do now?

Recommended Posts

In case you haven't read my Castlevania thread, it seems like the XBLA title has killed my system, a system that had been working perfectly since launch. I doubt this is just a coincidence.

I called 1-800-4MYXBOX and talked to someone who informed me that it would cost $139.90 (!) to fix the thing, without even guaranteeing that they could recover my saves and such from my hard drive.

At this point, I'm thinking of just selling the thing to EB Games and putting that credit towards an Xbox 360 Elite whenever it comes out, but if anybody else has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

Make sure theres nothing wrong with the harddrive - stick it in a friends X360 to see if it works and all data is there.

If it does work, theres something wrong with the X360 itself ---> No need to ship the harddrive with x360 when sending it to the repairmen..

well it's out of warranty? no xbox should be out of warranty now as far as i know. MS extended the consoles bought in the first 6 months another yr and the consoles then too got 1yr so since the 360 hasn't been out for 18 months yet you should still have a warranty left.

Call em up and tell them fix that sucker.

didn't they extend it to one year from purchase?

anyway, do the HDD swap thing and then see. if not, try calling again and bargain over the price. or if she's really out of warranty you can go to local electronics places, maybe you'll save a few.

i'd say worst case scenario, pay the price they ask for. if you're not willing to pay that then maybe it's time for another console? who knows when this alleged revamped 360 will come out.

Are you sure they extended consoles in the first 6 months another year or just a full year from the date of purchase?

I'm pretty sure it's one year from the date of purchase. My friend had his launch 360 go bad on him last month and MS told him he has to pay for the repairs.

My Xbox 360 just went bad because of a combination of my brother + Gears of War. I got my console in Decemeber 2005, so it seems i'll have to pay for repairs (or is it different for UK owners?). Oh well, i've emailed Xbox Support and i'll see what happens.
