IE7 will not install... a registry problem?

Recommended Posts

im sure some of you has had this problem before

i just got a new laptop, did a clean istall of xp sp2, and i am currently in the midst of updating everything.

when i try to install ie7 it stops and tells me to restart to revert any changes made and saves a shortcut to this kb article

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917925

the problem is that none of the solutions will work for me...

the first solution is to disable any antivirus/apyware apps that i have, i do not currently have any yet

the next couple of solutions requires that i open the ie7 log file... well i cant because i did not install ie7 did i? i performed the search as suggested, and there was no file with such a name. i searched in my windows directory manually... nothing

wmp11 also did not install... it just gives me the cannot install wmp11, then i click finish...

i am getting thuroughly fustrated here, i have obtained all the windows updates, so i should be able to install these apps just fine, but that is not the case

please help, and thankyou for your time

If the install failed, you should still see the ie7log files in the Windows folder. There will be two: ie7.log and ie7_main.log. They are created during the install and are not deleted during revert process, precisely because their contents can helpin identifying why the install failed.
