kinetix63 Veteran Posted March 24, 2007 Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2007 Hi guys, I am pretty sure I know the answer to this already, but hopefully someone can confirm. I bought a 360 today, got it home, set it all up... played a few demo's from Live, and decided a minute ago to try out Gears of War that came bundled with the console. Put the disc in... loud whirring followed by a HIDEOUS scraping/crunching sound and a "Unreadable Disc" message on screen. Took it out, no damage on the disk, looks perfectly fine... put it back in, no luck. Tried Viva Pinata, same thing (except no crunching noise). So, I am pretty sure the console is fubar'd and needs to go back, but is there ANYTHING I can try before I do? Thanks in advance,
starmatrix
even if you do get it working, id send it back all the same. I would want to risk keeping a console that did that. on a different note...what does fubar'd mean? all i think of is foobar. there was an article in the paper with lots of abbreviations today though, and that was one of them. I just cant remember what ti was... I can guess what the f is

AimLXJ
There's nothing else you can do but get a replacement or a fix.
+Mystic MVC Posted March 25, 2007 MVC Share Posted March 25, 2007 There's nothing else you can do but get a replacement or a fix. Exactly, I would get one quick too. Don't put anymore of your games in there until you get a new one.
AimLXJ
Yea, another best thing is don't turn it on any more, unplug everything and send it back ( just remember to keep your hard drive so you don't send it to them )
Circaflex
well if you bought it today take it back to wherever you bought it and return it.
TokyoKiller
If you purchased it today then you probably have a 30-day guarantee on it from wherever you purchased it. Thats how it is in Canada and the US. Also, yes your system screwed unless you want to try clearing your cache. Search for clearing Xbox 360 Cache. kinetix63 Veteran Posted March 25, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted March 25, 2007 That's pretty much what i thought guys, thank you. I am quite new to the world of the XBox so I didn't know if this was a "Common" fault or not that might have had some kind of simple solution. I shall take it back tomorrow. Thank you to all of you. SimplySchizo
Well, this is what just happened to me... I turned on my 360, went to change my gametag, went into add points screen and "P0of!@!#" Screen went black, and got the infamous 3 blinking red quadrant lights. Now I gotta go through the whole shipping ordeal... :pinch:

I have to say I'm happy that I never heard a crunching noise in my 360, I don't think I would be able to take the pain .

Don't bother with the whole ship if off thing, as the shop has sold you something which didn't work from the begining.
