apparently everything on the 20 gb hdd will get deleted, so i guess it'll be like having a fresh new drive.

And just for the low price of $479 plus tax (doesn't include WiFi nor HDDVD drive kids, those are sold separately).

Guess we should all wait for the Xbox 360 Elite Premium SKU if we want all the cool things in the same package.

Does the transfer cable come with the Elite console or only with seperately purchased 120 GB HDD?

Q: Will the Elite console come with one of these migration cables?

Mike Newey: We don?t think there will be a lot of current Xbox 360 owners who want to buy an Elite console and transfer data from their old 20 GB hard drive, so there will not be a migration cable bundled with the Elite console. However, we know that some current Xbox 360 owners will want to upgrade to the Elite console, so if they get in touch with us we will be more than happy to supply a migration cablfree of charge. b>

Nah, just the possibility of doing a Copy & Paste to as many hard drives as you want.

So you have to get a screw driver, open your PS3 - remove the old HDD, open up your computer( cant use a laptop ), try to find a cable that actually fits the laptop sized HDD, carefully inserting it careful not to bend one of the pins then use windows to move the files to the C drive, shut down the computer, insert the new HDD and move the files onto the new disk....

Yea, Handy

wow, where'd you get that from? it's not as complicated as you might think.

1) remove your old hard drive from the ps3

2) install new hard drive

3) put old hard drive into an external enclosure

4) connect (the now) external hard drive to the ps3 via usb

5) copy files to new hard drive

160 gb hard drive - $144.99

external enclosure - $28.99

total: $173.98...still cheaper than microsoft's 120 gig

plus your old data isn't completely wiped and you now have another storage device. so instead of replacing your old drive, you're basically adding to it.

love your gamerpic by the way ;)

Or... copy everything to a usb HDD or a pen drive, inster the new HDD and copy back?

Thats what? 3 steps? And you only spend the small price of $90? Thats how much the SATA 2.5" 120GB hard drives are going for now, ain't it?

And lets say that you don't have a pen drive or a usb HDD, then an enclosure. How much is that? $30?

You're right, the ability of copying everything as many times as you want isn't worth $150 (at max), we better spend $190.

when you buy stuff from the XBLMP to different licenses are issued, one to the Gamertag and another to the console (not the HDD), with the new 120gb you get a USB data transfer cable and software to "clone" your old drive into the new one, once the data transfer is over the old HDD will be wipeout.

It can't get any easier than that because all the licenses and such are seamlessly transfer to the new HDD for you to enjoy, but then again, the data stored into the new HDD will work only on the console the original licenses were issued to.

im just curious, and hope it works.. i don't see why not, but i also didn't see why there should of been a problem with my old drive on a new xbox360.

If i take my hard drive to a friends house, pop it in, and connect to XBL, all my media (eg. COD2 map packs) are all playable. If i don't connect to the internet, and use my hard drive on his xbox360, my content (COD2 maps) will not work.

but that is an old HDD to a new xbox360.

this is your xbox360 with a new hard drive on it.. and if the content is registered to the console / HDD combined.. changing the HDD will still allow for the content to be used offline correct, or will i have to call microsoft again to get this sorted?

Obviously the data cable kit must wipe the destination drive before the copy (and also wipes the source drive after the copy) which would explain why you can't copy(migrate) more then one drive, that would be rather annoying. Personally I think MS have completely shot themselves in the foot with this propriatry drive stuff, it's just a money making scheme. They should of done what Sony did and used normal PC HDD that can be easily replaced (I'm sure once the Sony PR people get wind of this, Sony will brag about how they did it better :p well at least this time they would be right)

The content isn't registered to your HDD at all AFAIK. So as long as you're using your old 360 or are signed into another 360 you'll be able to access your purchased content from what I understand.

As far as this article, I've b****ed plenty aobut MS's recent decisions, but this seems like a non-issue.

I beleave people are making a fuss about this for no reason, how many are going to get a new 120GB HDD anyways? And if you do, what need do you have for the 20GB HDD after that? The new drive does cost alot, I agree, but the price should fall if they decide to replace the 20GB HDD completelly.

It's true that this is just another way for them to make money, but this has always been the case with add-ons and so forth. There are 3rd party external HDD setups you can buy that let you use any PC HDD you want + the normal 360 HDD. And they're cheap, so where is the problem? Don't like MS's way, go with someone else. The same can be said for cables, controllers etc.

only problem i have with this is all the "added preloaded content" on the 120gb hard drive will go bye bye

Only problem I see too. Not that they'll be worth keeping in the first place most likely :/

I just want to know if my paid for content will work after the transfer? Because after having my 360 bit the dust then getting a replacement unit all my arcade game when back to the trial versions. Will the games I have bought since then not work either after I do a transfer?

My understanding with the arcade games is they are tied to your xbox live signon so that should not matter.

Dude, why do you make it so obvious that you have an insane level of bias towards the 360/Wii and not the PS3?

I've never owned a playstation console (aside from the PSP for a brief time), yet I can still hold back on being a jerk towards a specific console/manufacturer. You seem to go to the extreme where you have distaste for those who actually own the PS3.. Come on now, being a 360/Wii fan doesn't mean you have to hate other consoles.. That's just not cool.

Oh I also own a 360/Wii similar to you btw. But like I said, I don't act the way you do unless someone who is Pro-PS3 biased as heck starts to make illogical comments.

And on another note (this isn't directed at you), why the heck do people think being a 360 fan means never acknowledging that they as a company, more specifically as a console manufacturer do indeed make mistakes, and wrong choices. The same goes for Sony and Nintendo (and obviously Sony is worse at the moment). For example the price of the 120GB HDD.

QFT.

It seems like you have to be either at one extreme or the other. You either have to love your current system of choice and hate the others, but as soon as you say something negative about the system you choose, you are "whining". Nothing wrong with criticizing something you have bought, or wanting more out of it.

Even your favourite company makes things you don't like, why is pointing that out such an issue?
