gigapixels Veteran Posted March 29, 2007 Veteran Share Posted March 29, 2007 Alright, so there's a browser out there using Apple's WebKit rendering engine on Windows. There are a few posts about it, but no topic specifically for it, so I figured I'd post one to let you all know. This browser is still at 0.2, so it's extremely low on features and functionality, and it's quite buggy. But, when it was working fine pages were loading EXTREMELY fast. I could not believe it. Not to mention I do like the way the WebKit engine renders pages compared to other engines So, if you'd like to try it out, the website is here: Swift Browser I believe this is definitely something to watch. Oh, and if you're a developer, like myself, apparently they're looking for some more help on the project. I'd help, but I've got too much going on and I don't know if I even have enough experience to help on a project like this. Check it out.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted March 29, 2007 Veteran Share Posted March 29, 2007 Ohh, an embeddable .NET control would be good. Eventually the engine will have a good port to window, as they are slowly merging WebKit and KHTML back together (Unity), and there are plans to port it to Windows (with Konqueror)
gigapixels Veteran Posted March 29, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted March 29, 2007 I'm definitely excited about this, because I've got an iBook G4 (and I had a Mac Mini) and Safari's rendering was always blazing fast. I sure hope the guys in the project are in it for the long haul, because I'd like to see Swift mature into a full-blown browser. I only use Firefox because I can't stand any other alternative out there, and I've tried them all. If I can get an excuse to switch, I'll do it. primexx
Yea I've known about them for quite a while, the development seems to be extremely slow though and it's nowhere near usable stage yet, unfortunately.
