IE7 Links Bar

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am used to Firefox and have made use of their Bookmarks bar, I just found IE7 has a "links" bar which is the same - however two things are annoying me about it.

1) It says "Links", for some reason it just stands out and distracts me. Is there any way to get rid of this?

2) When I put a shortcut there it has the IE7 shortcut icon, is their a way to change this to their favicon?

[edit: just found a third annoyance about it]

3) Any way to drag from a tab into the bar, or do I have to do it from the address bar, either way not really a problem - I'll adjust.

Ta much like ;)

1. I'm sure there is some way to do this. I, however, have no idea. This didn't help you did it? Unlike Firefox, you can't just open up IE7 and play around. Maybe a reg hack? I doubt it but I figured I'd throw it out there.

2. The favicon SHOULD change by itself when you visit the site and the favicon is cached. It takes a bit to load up and for some reason if you switch to a different tab, the favicons change. Weird.

3. Are you asking whether it is possible to drag a tab you have opn into the links bar to create a bookmark? If so I think the only way to add a bookmark is to click the star (with the plus sign thingy) to the left of the tabs and add it there. Or press Ctrl + D. That works too.

The bookmarks that are on the links bar are in your favorites in a folder called Links. So if you want a page to appear on the links bar, just add it to the Links folder in your favorites. You can also set any favicon you wish to those, as with any other favorites; make the the favorite read only to stop IE 7 from changing your customized favicons.

If it was a snake it would have bit us. Thanks a lot, it definitely works. I just deleted the value data and left it blank:

How exactly did you go about removing the LINKs text? I tried using the Regedit instructions above but I can't ind a string entitled 'LinksFolderName' and when I create one it does nothing. Can you tell me how you did it with specifics, please? Thanks :)

Are you sure you followed the path exactly as shown by MuscleFlex?

Yup I followed the exact path specified by MuscleFlex. I'm on Vista and using IE 7+ (obviously) if that makes a difference. I'll try and create the value and see what happens.

Know what? Im not on Vista right now. Thats probably it. I am using IE7 tho. Ill bet the path is different or it might be a permissions thing. Vista is so much more locked down, Im thinking you cant just get there from here, like in XP. Gotta be a way tho.
