Steve Gosselin
From this blog: miscoded by Hallvord R. M. Steen >> can you help exercise the compatibility skeleton? Now, here's an experimental compatibility layer for WMP ActiveX scripting, implementing some of the ActiveX version's API in User JS, and I would very much appreciate your help testing it... Please install it as a User JS and go surfing for video sites (you need Java installed too for it to work). Please leave a comment on this post when you start using it, giving your WMP version. Also report in the comments any broken sites, as well as ones that are broken without the user script but works with it. (Ignore video.aol.com because there seems to be a lot more work to do to get that fish working.) Also be sure to report any stability issues. More info + download link for this userjs here >> can you help exercise the compatibility skeleton? Edit: note that the user script requires Opera 9.20 or greater. primexx
Why the hell would anyone in their right mind want to install ActiveX on anything at all?!?!?!
XerXis
Why the hell would anyone in their right mind want to install ActiveX on anything at all?!?!?! If you would know anything about programming at all you would know that activeX (or com as it is called actually) is still very common and was (is) a great technology. The reason activex has such a bad name is because of a stupid decision microsoft made about activex and internet explorer, but that's another story. Com is now being gradually replaced with .net but will be around for many years to come
Pallab
Its interesting to note that while this story didnt get any attention, the story about Firefox getting support for WMP ActiveX was featured on the front page. Granted that Fx has more users, but atleat a link to this userjs for opera users could have been included in the same post. https://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=39518
Venom2701
The latest build of Opera 9.21 from the desktop team included a fix to get the new firefox plugin working in Opera. It works a charm! If you plan to upgrade, make sure you save your search.ini in the Opera program folder. Opera Desktop Team Blog Entry.

The old workarounds for Firefox didn't get front page attention either.
