Shasoosh
hey all.. i'm wondering, in FireFox with the add on "addblock Plus" i can make a frame totally disappear, with opera "block content" when i block an address the frame just goes white, any way to make it disappear? gigapixels Veteran Posted April 24, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 24, 2007 You probably shouldn't ask about ad-blockers here. The staff don't like them and they have good reason. Neowin uses ads to help maintain the site, and if you're using an ad-blocker then you're taking away from their income. So yeah, don't ask. Shasoosh
its not an "ad blocker" I've added, its a function that comes with opera called "block content" + i can block the image \ add but i see white square afterwards, i don't see way the stuff should care. I'm not using it for neowin any way.
gigapixels Veteran Posted April 24, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 24, 2007 Alright, well in that case I don't use Opera so I have no clue :p
halcyoncmdr
I've been trying to figure this out for a while as well, but I haven't really looked too much into it. I hardly use it, unless tehre is an annoying "flying mosquito"-type ad that has sound with it, I can't stand those. Otherwise most pages I visit the ads tend to meld into the design of the page, like here on Neowin, they aren't really annoying or in the way... But I've never gotten the frame to disappear. There might be a way to do it with UserJS, but I don't know JS, so maybe someone else has an idea or something... :/

There's other ways too I think though. and geenrally opera just blocks the actual image itself while adblock often blocks the whole dmoain or parts thereof, at least if you tell it to. If you edit the block adress in opera to block the whole directory or more you can usually get rid of the frames for it in most cases. But remember to not block ads on sites that rely on ad support such as Neowin ;)
Shasoosh
try this:https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...#entry588191864 tried it, thanks .. but in some pages it still doesn't work. take whis site for example: h**p://www.hwzone.co.il in the upper right corner, there's an ad I blocked, now there's a white space i can't remove. Dogan
I tried that aswell. Seem like the background is white and will be, even if the banner is removed. Try another page, like the example in the thread I posted.
Shasoosh
that's the thing man, in Firefox ad block plus the ad is removed completely Edit: i think i found it, i blocked http://hwzone.co.il/design2005/460.gif, Reload stylesheets & Refresh display and now the white frame is gone ... the sad thing is that i needed firefox to find what address was that gif Edited April 25, 2007 by Shasoosh
Dogan
You could have done that without FF, by shift-clicking to block a single picture :)
Shasoosh
actually i can't :) shift clicking doesn't do anything for me .. any way this gif is not like ordinary picture, if i right click it there is no "image properties" in the menu
