IAIHMB
I've got a Dell E510/5150 which uses 240 pin DDR2 memory. Does my motherboard limit the speed of the memory that I can use? If so what happens if install memory that's over the limit? I've currently got 1 GB (2 x 512 MB) of dual channel PC2 4300 and I'd like to replace it with two of these. Aside from the ~3 GB barrier I'll hit on 32 bit Windows will I run into any problems? Any help is appreciated, thanks! :)
MrBear5587
No, they should work. The new sticks will just function at the maximum speed your motherboard supports. So if your motherboard only supports PC2 4300 memory, then the new sticks will only function at 533MHz rather than 667MHz. If you download CPU-Z from www.cpuid.com and see what motherboard make/model you have, you could probably find out on the manufacturers website what memory bandwidths are supported by the board.
