My firefox 2.0.0.3 has a high ram usage. I have turion 64 1.6ghz on windows xp home sp2. I was wondering if anyone knew of a fix for the memory leak?

No fix for it atm, although if you open about:config, and set config.trim_on_minimize to true, when you minimize FF it should reduce usage.

trim_on_minimize makes Firefox clear it's memory cache when you minimize it, lower ram usage at the expense of speed.

People assume that's the memory leak though, so why not do it.

can you recommend another popular browser such as firefox with the same or similar functionality? don't want to use IE. the memory leaks are starting to annoy me

did the trim on minimize, memory leak still happens. how can i fix

I have posted here about this before too, and I have tried all these tweaks and everything, but nothing works..

My Firefox runs at over 150,000K most of the time. The only thing thats seemed to work (and not on purpose) is using Vista.

Vista tends to run Firefox very nicely.

I highly recommend Opera. It's very stable, the most secure and also the fastest GUI browser!

http://www.opera.com/

If Opera improved its icon and its default GUI Interface to a more cleaner interface then i would use it. i just don't like its themes and i don't like its default interface etc.

This is one of those beauty in the eye of the beholder moments. IMO, Opera's gui and overall look blows Firefox away. Firefox actually "looks" slow..clunky. Opera is sleek and sexy..much cleaner look out of the box, IMO. That being said, I really like both browsers and always have both installed. Plus, you can completely tweak the look of both browsers gui to look any way you want.

The GUI argument on a skinnable browser makes no sense. So you don't like the GUI, go get a new one! I use Opera because I like the Presto rendering engine and the community behind the browser, not because of its GUI. I use a custom skin anyways, so I don't even remember what the default looks like anyways... let me check... Wow, the default one does suck...:( Also, you can edit the config and have it use a custom icon.

Opera is just like Firefox when it comes to the customizing. Take a little time to look around and search for answers and you can edit just about anything you want to make it the way you like.
