Folder views

Recommended Posts

Hello and good days,

I am using windows xp pro, and there has been another amazing thing I have seen that shocked my brains out. I want to make a folder and its subfolders have the same view type. But stupid xp has only two options

Change the view of only a single folder or apply setting to ALL folders!!!

Do you know a way to accomplish this task?

Thanks in advance

I am posting a link to this thread on my site...because if somebody can help you out, he'd be helping me out.

I've long wanted a way to setup the music file folders I have on a separate partition to all view as "List" without the command being applied to every other folder on my hardrive.

If it can be done, someone smart like Herby should be able to figure this out. He likes a challenge. :) If it can't be done, there has to be a very good reason why.

Or maybe some fantastic script writer knows a way.

Whoever figures it out, will instantly become my new best friend, and be placed on my Christmas card list.

Me Too!! For so long this has been an issue. Kelly's bag thingy registry tweak didn't solve it for me, nor did the upgrade to XP SP2.

Oh I DO hope someone will help us :)

Erm, go to the folder you want to change, goto view and change it to what you want, do the same for the other folders you want...

Or am I completely misunderstanding you? :D

Umm, yes :)

Yeah we know that Phixion. The trouble is it changes ALL the folders throughout the whole drive.

I have a drive full of music files. On that drive - and that drive only - I want music columns such as artist and album. I am sure you know the sort of thing I mean.

The problem is all my folders now have artist and album and that's not very useful when looking at photos, and word docs. I've never found a way of fixing it. SP2 was supposed to fix it and didn't. And Kelly had a bag thingy tweak to the registry but that did nothing for me.

Thanks for trying Phixion. :) Any other ideas...

I think I have an answer to this issue

You remember how when we've specified the folder settings for music, it changes the whole flipping drive/pc..!!

Well..... kelly gave me a clue: see Number 2. Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000

Well the 8000 setting did nothing for me (it used to recommend a mere 5000..!!)

However, and here's the good bit. I increased my "BagMRU Size"=dword" size to 9999 (I didn't wanna risk going for 10,000).

So far, so good. Try it and see for yourself.

>>>btw I did a reset all folders first (Folder Options>View tab> Reset all folders) and rebooted. Then set about upping the BagMRU Size.

I wrote a vbs script that addresses this issue. Specifically it's for auto-setting the views for a music collection on a drive in an \Artist\Album\Songs.mp3 format, and setting it to thumb\thumb\details view, with customizable details (name, albumn, bitrate, duration, year, track, etc etc)

Email me at neotech40@yahoo.com if interested in it.
