lsquare
Is it possible to highlight a word and then quickly search up the definition of it? Someone told me this is possible, but I'm not aware of any plugins for either browsers that does this.

lsquare
Hi Sgt_Strider,I think Bayden IEToys will do what your asking. You can find them here cheers blinky I checked out the website and it appears that it uses wikipedia as its source. In academia, wikipedia is definitely not a source that is recommended for use. Is there an option to change the source for the dictionary?
lsquare
I did this with the Oxford English Dictionary program I had. Unfortunately, I don't have any spare money to buy a program.
migo
I dug it out. The program is actually iFinger, and comes with the Webster dictionary for free. In earlier versions of IE, double clicking a word would do it. With IE7 (I'm assuming because of protected mode), it will take a highlighted word if you do CTRL+F11 by default, but I bound it to CTRL+; (since I'm on Dvorak, would be where CTRL+Z is on a QWERTY layout) and it still works nicely. Install iFinger, have it run in the background, highlight the word, use whatever hot key you had bound for it and it'll bring up the results instantly. Websters should be good enough for academic purposes, although when I was in Uni they only accepted Oxford, which is why I bought it. www.ifinger.com

Em1lBh
Opera does it. highlight the word. right click on it, and hit dictionary. or any other search provider.
Toology
You can do it without an extension in Firefox, sort of. If you highlight a word and have a dictionary search engine currently selected you can look up that word. Example:
supernova_00
find a search plugin and then make that the default, highlight word, right click on it and tell it to seach "google" for it.
david622
it's a built in feature for Opera :) and yes, I know that you specifically asked for IE7 and Firefox, but I thought i'd plug my favorite program anyway ^_^ even though i use dictionary.com and stuff, i personally find it faster to google "define WORD" --- it's a built in dictionary function in google. DoubleThink
Install IE Tab (Look it up on the Firefox Addons) and it will do IE7 tabs in Firefox, as long as you have IE7 installed.
