chris.baldwin
Good, I hope Apple (more specifically Mac liquidate!)Macs are so, well, stupid. For example, it's illegal to install OSX on a non-apple computer yet apple are allowed to install XP etc on their computers?!? Whats going on?!? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- gee! an mp3 player with a HD! how original! kinda reminds me of a JUKEBOX i once knew.. tiagosilva29
Interesting article, sort of.The iPhone is, IMHO, a love it or leave it thing. If you buy it, it's because you're already a devout Apple user. If you don't, it's because what you already have does just everything the iPhone promises and you don't see any real value in another device... particularly one two to three times more expensive than what's already out there. Or maybe you're one of those people that likes key fobs and status points. I would replate devout with addicted. One of my girlfriend's colleagues in a advertising academy was an american addicted on iPods (and other Mac things). He told her exactly that: he's addicted to the iPod (and other Apple devices), he's aware of it, and he knows he could purchase better for less, but he can't do a god damned thing, after 3 iPods. A freaking advertiser. QuickTime is a massively different beast on the PC and Mac, on the PC it's mainly a player (a crappy one at that), on the Mac it's mainly a multi-media handling framework. Quoted for truth. Safari, FF and Opera manage early CSS3 styles quite neatly (even Konqueror), but IE7? not really. Even Konqueror? Safari's WebKit is based on Konqueror's KHTML (read The_Decryptor's post). Please don't bring me that CSS3 mambojambo yet, it's freaking disgusting. I say this because CSS1 is what... 8++ years old and there's not a single browser that fully complies with it. By full compliance I assert on: validation then renderization. You won't find one. Trust me. At some point, they fail. Good, I hope Apple (more specifically Mac liquidate!)Macs are so, well, stupid. For example, it's illegal to install OSX on a non-apple computer yet apple are allowed to install XP etc on their computers?!? Whats going on?!? I'll tell you what's going on: Driving more people into the Mac platform. What would you rather have? Two computers at home, one being a Mac and the other a Windows box... or a Mac that would run OS X and Windows, when you really, really need it? Consider space, prices (mac + windows box + windows > mac + windows) and Apple profit. Win.
sundayx Veteran Posted July 20, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 20, 2007 Apple is not trying to win the fight, hell its probably not even consider fighting. Safari for Windows is just their implementation of Mac software ports to the PC, and providing a good entry point for PC users to justify and switch to the Mac. iTunes attempted successfully to adjust iPod users for the PC, Safari attempts to do the same. Safari browser is a very powerful browser that has been only available for Macs. Now that it is offered on the PC, it benefits for both the end users and Apple, a win win situation. NeoXY
Good, I hope Apple (more specifically Mac liquidate!)Macs are so, well, stupid. For example, it's illegal to install OSX on a non-apple computer yet apple are allowed to install XP etc on their computers?!? Whats going on?!? Uhh yeah? Its called ummm...law? If you buy a license for Windows XP, there is nothing in the EULA that says you can't install it on a Apple computer. Different story for OSX because its not licensed to public but only specifically to the mac platform. Apple is not a software company. Again, it can't compete with Microsoft directly, so if you want to use OSX, get a Mac And oh...Safari on windows was terrible for me. I don't know why everyone is so surprised, but I'm pretty sure things are not gonna change for Safari. Again, Apple have a thing of "doing it their way". So don't expect them to make a new browser, but expect them to make it...useable at least.
tiagosilva29
But when Apple asserts its "superior" user interface conventions in a Windows context where everyone is used to and comfortable with the Microsoft way, bad things happen.Windows users are forced to use iTunes if they want to play their iPods, which, like everyone else, they do. But it's a painful, time-consuming and irritating experience for many who are used to largely standardized Windows conventions of button, bar and menu placement and functionality. Just a quick add about what he said: it's absolutely true. Sometimes I don't understand what's inside the minds of Apple's interface designers. They supposedly learned the same crap that I did over HCI, so... what gives?
