iron2000
I think I'll stick to a local DNS server as the OpenDNS servers are all out there in the US. The local DNS server is faster then OpenDNS here. Maybe until more Asia servers are created, I'll try again.
That Guy Veteran Posted November 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 8, 2007 Meh, doesn't make much/any difference to me. In fact, it feels faster now that I've come off it. BUt I must say, my two years using them was interesting, and the other features are certainly good. Guess it depends on our ISP and location. Orien
Yeah, my local ISP's DNS servers are much faster.
JoHideo
Do they do any sort of logging of what sites are visited or what your internet connection is used for? It seems like there would probably be those types of issues to think about with OpenDNS.
BassRck4
You can set-up logging ,if you want.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted December 22, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 22, 2007 LMAO, It's not advertising, it's advice. If I were advertising then I'd upload a Picture with me holding giant stars going, USE NOW!Anyway, that aside. We'll use Neowin as an example, on my default DNS server Neowin takes 7 seconds to load, on OpenDNS it takes 2 seconds. You be the judge :p That would be something else then, DNS is only queried once and it should respond within a few hundred MS at most. someone before showed me a firefox tweak for squeesing extra speed out of its useheres the directions of anyone is interested: 1. type about:config in adress bar 2. in the filter bar , type pipelining 3. network.http.pipelining - set the value to ''true'' 4. set network.http.pipelining.maxrequests value to 10 5. restart FF It's limited to 8 in code, setting it higher has no effect. Pallab
smells like advertisingHow is this Open DNS thing though? Nah. OpenDNS is actually good and useful.. you can get speed improvements if your isp's dns sucks.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted December 25, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 25, 2007 You would get a few milliseconds of speed improvement before you actually started loading the page. And that's only on pages where the DNS isn't cached.
derek22
This is great ive been looking for alternative free dns servers to use with my dns server due to isp having trouble with their dns servers also another thing that really helps me is by having a 10gb cache in isa server 2004
