0 Quboid
Go PHP! I wouldn't call HTML or XML a language in the same sense as PHP, ASP or Perl. These 3 are little use on the web without HTML or XHTML, as there are two different types of languages (programming and markup) - but I'll go for PHP anyway as I find coding HTML boring and depressing. 0 john smith 1924 Veteran Posted December 28, 2002 Veteran Share Posted December 28, 2002 php is not more powerful than asp in terms of page delivery - but it is free, and more accesable to joe average- so it is in that sense.

0 CitruS
Perl being installed in more servers than PHP doesn't mean it's better. PHP has everything done for you, that's why it's easier to learn. But I like Perl better because I like doing the stuff (GET Parameters, POSt Parameters, Cookies, etc.) manually. If I were to program for the web, I would go with Java Servlets. :) So it's Perl and Java for me.
0 parmeet
PHPits free and powerful and more servers sopport PHP over ASP and perl is more supported by servers then php, does that maike perl better?(YES :p and perl pwnz :)) PHP is the wildest used Apache module Go and look at www.hotscripts.com You will find that number of PHP script are more than any other! You can check it at other places also, you would get similar results PERL used to be more popular than PHP but that isnt so now PHP is a scripting language (Made for web) PERL was originally not made for web
0 parmeet
and i forgot to add look at http://www.hotscripts.com/polls/results.hsp (poll conducted by hotscripts.com) PHP is leading with 58.8% and then comes ASP with 12.9% and then Perl with 11.5% and the poll here also makes it clear that PHP is better :D *It is odd that some of the post of mine are allowed to be edited while the others arent* Edited December 30, 2002 by parmeet
0 john smith 1924 Veteran Posted December 30, 2002 Veteran Share Posted December 30, 2002 java is slow, gay, annoying and poorly supported. asp is ok - but costs money and can only really be run on windows boxes. php is free, easy to work with, and ships with the worlds most popular web server- apache. the evidence really is in-contestable ! 0 Squirrelington
just because more n00bs use it does not make it better, premade commands and routines makes it easier and you generally lose some functionality than when you do the code yourself. 0 Guest jl7c2
java is slow, gay, annoying and poorly supported. Now I don't want to get in a fight here but I don't think you can back up anything you are saying. First off, it's slow only the first time you run the script because the code is compiling to a class. It only has to be compiled once. Second, I don't think Java has a sexual preference. Third, the code can be run on ANY operating system with ANY server. Last time I checked that wasn't called poor support. And if your talking about communities of Java programmers helping out other programmers then you haven't been to forums.java.sun.com. What about comp.lang.java.*? There are thousands of resources for the plethora of oportunities in the language. I just want to hear your thoughts about what exactly makes it annoying  . Thanks  .
