Colin-uk Veteran Posted June 26, 2007 Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2007 Well the "buying alcohol" topic is on the front page recent posts, and there are news stories about credit card theft, warez, and video games, other than that i cant think of any other reason :p

markwolfe Veteran Posted June 26, 2007 Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2007 It says to contact your administrator. I guess this is not your network, but that of a school or business or such. Convince them to allow Neowin. You might need to give justification. As for the "prohibited words" or "exceeding the tolderance of questionable words", I guess that depends on what they have on their list of words, but Neowin does a great job of filtering. I guess it could be words like "mp3" or "xbox", which my work filters.

Steven P. Administrators Posted June 26, 2007 Administrators Share Posted June 26, 2007 It's the price you pay when you allow members to talk about most things (legal), rather than just sticking to the basics of "tech-related discussions". A10
They've been blocked before where I work(school IT) however not now it depends on the words it catches and what the network and or the school tech cooridinator thinks should be blocked. On a similiar note using Safari 3.02 yesterday at work I was able to surf to sites normally blocked Youtube, Myspace you name it no filtering anywhere to be found I can override the filter, but I'm 99% sure I didn't so it was a bit odd since it's filtering the sites now. Stephen Veteran Posted June 26, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2007 yeh i was at school, thought i mentioned that, oops yeh sthe system is quite bad, the school pays for access to a third part proxy which filters traffic. our school proxy goes through the third party proxy, so the admins have no access over what is blocked ste

kombolcha
right now i think i rank 16th at work for most blocked pages.. websense reports it.. i'm always giving the excuse that i'm trying to access sites that are work related, and websense blocks some stupid **** sometimes. like box.net i was using to transfer small files. it blocked it as "web host" wtf. and it blocks, youtube, google video, myspace.. etc.. but if the youtube video is embedded, it's not blocked, sometimes the site is not blocked, sometimes it is, but i don't want to gamble with that.. ummm ya, youtube has instructional video on how to replace hard drives.. right. and once in a while, it'll say, "grace period" and give me 10 minutes to access any site i want. it ****es me off.
