Fergie
Dear INS community,Four years ago, in the mind of Andrew "Argyll" Spearin, Insurgency was born. Since then, the team has grown, the mod has matured and our fan base has expanded. Today, after all the hard work our developers, community liaisons and testers have put in, with both Pongles and I leading the way, we can finally say: It's ready. We have put you, our loyal community, through a lot of ups and downs. While our development side was doing great, our PR side was lacking. It was a roller coaster ride just trying to get the mod to this point. A lot of crazy things happened that we can't really explain, but led to huge internal misunderstandings. It is no one's fault but our own and we have learned from this and many other mistakes. You can be rest assured to see many Insurgency updates in the future, where the mod should progress quite impressively over time, along with the development team's level of professionalism and its ability to cater to its community as well. The entire development process of this mod was an amazing learning experience for all of us and we are confident when we say we are better at this now than we were at the beginning. I'm quite confident that you all will appreciate the fruits of our labor, and we look forward to playing with you guys on the server and hearing your feedback! Insurgency Website For those that don't know INS (Insurgency) is a mod that only requires a game that includes Source SDK and Source SDK Base. Its set in Iraq and obviously, the Insurgents. The only download link at the moment is at File Planet but people will put torrents on the forum. Did I mention it was free?! :) Hope to see some of you in game. Xerus
Yeah I couldnt even play this for more than 5 minutes. I feel like I'm playing a game in slow motion. I love playing games that are so realistic they arent even fun, really I do.
Flash
This game has a steeper learning curve, maybe because it's a bit buggy lol

LOC Veteran Posted July 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2007 This is made by one of the guys who did Red Orchestra, so you know its going to rock. And it does. If you go in expecting a run and gun mod, you'll be disappointed hardcore. If you in expecting realistic, team based, VERY tactical gameplay, you'll be happy. For a HL2 mod its amazing. It is literally better than some retail games, though obviously it is a bit buggy at this point. If I could actually post news, this would be one of the stories :D

LOC Veteran Posted July 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2007 Quick question: is there a Neowin Steam members list (similar to the xbox live list)? Not sure. But everyone can add me to their Steam friends list if they want, I'm usually logged on most of the day (when my connection allows) my Steam name *should* be LOC, but if that doesn't work add loc\@/drtdomain.com. Wow, It looks fantastic. It is, and it does look amazing. Remember, nearly everything in this mod is custom done, the only other mod going this far and to look this good is Black Mesa. There's a reason why this mod took near 5 years to make :) And just so we are clear, there are a TON of people playing this. For a HL2 mod that is a feat. Unlike CS/HL1 mods that had huge followings, most HL2 mods have fairly small communities. Not Insurgency. Right now according to Gamespy stats INS has 192 servers, 2,649 players. Considering how many people play Dark Messiah and other high profile mods (Perfect Dark Source, Pirates, Vikings and Knights II etc) that's alot. The only other mod to do this well is Zombie Master, and that has only around 200 players. So you are going to have plenty of people to play this with. LOC Veteran Posted July 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2007 The main developer also helped make Red Orchestra as I said, and started Insurgency back in 2002 after he served in the Canadian armed forces.

Do you have CSS? If not, I'd get a package with CSS in it, just so you have some other multiplayer options. Of course once you get HL2 or CSS, you have access to the base files, and the Source SDK Base (which must be installed and run once before running Insurgency, or any recent mods) so you have access to many other mods, both single and multiplayer. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2007 This game looks interesting. I've been imagining a realistic modern warfare game on the Source engine. It seems as if they read my thoughts and made the game of my dreams. One question though, is it free?
LOC Veteran Posted July 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2007 Yes of course its free! Silly goose. :D Just download, install and play it. As long as you have base HL2 or CSS installed, and the Source SDK Base installed, and have run them both once, you can install and play the mod. LOC Veteran Posted July 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2007 nope i sure dont Then I'd recommend getting a package that has Counter-Strike: Source or Day of Defeat: Source in it. Both are extremely fun, and popular games (obviously CSS moreso than DoDS) and if you like Insurgency, you'll sure enjoy either one of those. I don't know what packages Valve offers, but if you can get one with CSS/DoDS that has HL2 or something that isn't like $50, I'd go for that one. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2007 Silly me. The game looked so professional, not like most mods. I thought an actual game developer made the game to sell. From what I've seen on the website it's still in the beta stages. Ah, who cares. As long as it's fun.
