I guess what most ppl want its a fast Vista out of the box and some more respect for older but expensive hardware like Audigy 1/2 users. I know, its not Microsoft fault, its Creative but Ms certainly has the resources to put some pressure on these companies and It should do it...fast. freak_power Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 Well, when someone like you who doesn't know what they're doing goes around and disables services, superfetch and other things, you're going to experience these types of issues. If you actually left these features on and left the swap file as default, you wouldn't notice any "choking". Dude I have superfetch enabled. Apparently you don't play games... ViperAFK Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 The bad gaming performance is mainly due to crappy drivers, my performance was pretty bad until I recently downloaded nvidia's latest bgeta drivers, which improved my fps alot so they are improving, although no sleep doesn't work. Until the drivers reach a good level, you'll always run into some performence or stability issues with a new OS. And unlike going from 2k to XP, Vista has enough core changes to account for the problems driver wise. Gaming performence being slow is probably Video card drivers, nVidia still has work to do, ATi is a bit better off with theirs so it all depends on what card you have. But there is more than just video card drivers, any driver installed could be giving you problems. It could be sound, video, or chipset. If it's anything I/O related that could be why a few people are seeing the HDD and overall performence problems. I've been through this many times on XP since 2001, when installing bad drivers i'd have performence/stability for XP hit rock bottom. Hell even now my cheap sound cards drivers like the blue screen XPSP2. Is that the OSs fault though? Fabeme Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 The point i wanted to make is that Vista is built for system with 2 or more cpu cores, 2 or more GB of RAM, RAID 0 configurations. I said if you play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for like 2 hours with the 2GB of RAM system. When you quit the game, Windows Vista will have hard time refreshing thing...and it is because all the RAM is eaten up...and that's call chocking. Isn't it because it's an OpenGL game and that Vista emulate the render via Direct3D (it use the card if you have an ICD Driver, but they are not performant for the moment) ? If you play DX games, you do not have such comportment... Could be wrong but this might be linked... not a specialist, so might be wrong. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jimkraz Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 I remember getting XP delivered from Amazon on release date, my scanner, my printer, all sorts gave problems with drivers, but it was still better than ME, I got Vista Basic for my Packard Bell, one year old laptop, as a gift, the install went easy, my printer worked without installing drivers, my scanner worked with drivers from site, the only thing that I have not got working yet is my RAZR V3, but I have a desktop with XP, so no tears there, Vista runs well on my Packard Bell, Intel CeleronM chip, 1gig ram, it is flying compared to XP, I had downloaded whatever drivers I needed prior to install, will probably install Vista on my desktop when I sort out RAZR problems. In Vista, with the "base" drivers from Vista, with the Dell Update or the MS update, I get "Semaphore" error. Explain that? Oh wait, you can't because even Microsoft has admited to me in email, that they don't care about that error and won't rush to fix it. So now, I have to copy files from SDCARD through my PDA. eilegz Posted July 16, 2007 Share Posted July 16, 2007 i still cant make firefox my default browser, the new default programs its a pain, i can associate html and htm to firefox but still not default browser i tried to associate by protocol http and https but theres no opcion to allow firefox. System Specs: AMD 6000+, Evga 590SLI, 4GB DDR2, Xi-Fi Platinum. 2 x Raid 0. I have to say that Windows Vista 32 simply refused to run stable on this configuration, so i installed x64 edition for like 8 months now with problem free, except that Sleep mode doesn't work. When I click Sleep Windows just locks like when you press windows key + L. Not sure what is causing this cause Nvidia Drivers are fine. Why are you ressurecting such an old thread ? I mean most of the anti vista posts in this thread is made by peopel who haven't run vista and is spreading fud about required hardware.
