12Iceman
Recently, my browser (Firefox 2.0.0.4) has been locking up (acting really slow with 90% CPU usage) whenever I open any Neowin pages. The problem occurs even quicker when I open multiple tabs. I don't think the problem is with my machine because I can open 30+ tabs from any other site with out any slow down or problems. My system specs are obviously fast enough to handle Neowin and the same thing happens to me on my laptop. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? RuudJacobs.NET
Ehr no not really, have you checked for spyware? if that's not the problem I bet there is an alien invasion coming up (or a 2nd spanish inquisition).
Shane Pitman
Negatory good buddy. 2.0.0.4 here and firefox.exe is 0% cpu with 4 Neowin tabs open. Try a good spyware scan on your system and see if that helps.
tao muon
I haven't had that problem to that extreme, but the new neowin theme is causing IE7 on my Vista machines to spike to 60-70% cpu usage (one a celeron 1.6, the other PentiumD-820) whenever it is updating the recent news and forum posts. Switching to the older themes resolves the problem. Edited July 12, 2007 by tao muon
gandolas
I'm having the same problem when browsing in Neowin. Sometimes it helps close and open Firefox (2.0.0.4). Edited July 12, 2007 by gandolas
Samboini
Mine randomly stalls a lot with Neowin regardless of whether I am opening a few pages, many or it is just idling. At times it can take literally 20 secs to switch between tabs. I have 2.0.something and I don't get this problem on any other sites. Most of the time it will return to normal after a few minutes however on occasion I need to close the program and re-open it which is a pain. 12Iceman
Switching to the older themes resolves the problem. Thanks so much for the tip, Neowin is finally usable again :) . It's a shame too, because I really liked the new theme, but its definitely not worth the slowdown it causes on my browser. gandolas
Same here: back to "Swift Refresh". It was impossible to browse with the new skin.
Joel
Wow, 3 Firefox users vs. the rest of us who all manage to make it work. Have you guys disabled anything in fits of paranoia, like Java?

Nope, I am using the default firefox install (with some standard menu options changed of course) under Windows Vista 32-bit / XP Pro with the following Addon's installed: Adblock Filterset.G Updater, Adblock Plus, Flashgot, and Undo Closed Tabs Button. Joel
Adblock will do this, if you're blocking Neowin.

gwai lo
My system is clean as well. I've been doing 5ish windows plus tabs for a couple weeks now ( I kind of organize how I'm browsing..yes it's weird I know ) and it was working pretty good. However, I had the samething happen last night just browsing Neowin..hasn't in the previous weeks. Just opened three tabs on Neowin and firefox locked up. I don't run extensions, just Firefox vanilla. Only other applications running are avast ( well it's not really running, but doing the background stuff ) and aim. I guess it's no big deal because if I kill firefox and reopen it, it has the "restore session" thing that saves me from losing anything.
curme
I though it was just me! I have Firefox 2.0.0.4, but on dial-up as well, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Strange thing is, at work (with an old IE browser, I forget which build) Neowin locks up everything too! Of course, the computer at work has 512megs of memory, and I have a couple of IE instances open, but I never had these problems before.
Redmak Administrators Posted July 13, 2007 Administrators Share Posted July 13, 2007 Is this happening on the forums as well as on the main page?
12Iceman
Is this happening on the forums as well as on the main page? I think it is only happening on the forums. I changed the forums back to the old skin and left the main page on the new one and the problem went away. But it is nice to know that while my system can handle any game I throw at it, the might of Neowin will bring it to its knees!!! :o
Daniel Tablas
This happened to me a few days ago, it's only the forums.
DJLunacy
Yeah mine moves when i am switching pages then drops down to 0-2% firefox 2.0.4 With the new skin as well.
LightIdea
Yeah, it only happens with me on the forums. But I change my theme to Lite, and it works fine :) EDIT: said wrong theme :p
+vlsi0n Subscriber¹ Posted July 13, 2007 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 13, 2007 That's what the heck is going on! I was wondering why Firefox is so slow sometimes :o
shakey
Not sure if this is the same problem. Only happens in the forums. I will open up a topic, it will load it completely, but for some reason, it will just freeze for about 20 secs. I cant scroll or go back or even refresh. If i minimized firefox and brought it back up, the page would just show blue until the freeze stopped. Now, i reformatted a couple days ago, and this problem has not happened since. I think it was due to some bad software or spyware that may have been on my comp at the time. That problem only happened on these forums too, no other sites would freeze. Of course, that's unrelated, but i still think it should be mentioned.
Sniper101
This happens in IE and Opera for me :( its so laggy on the forums, take 30 secs for the main page to become unstuck also.
