troist
i get a very similar problem but for me it only happens if i leave a tab with a neowin page in it open for a while... then the tab bar just freezes up and firefox starts to peak quite badly. Echilon
I thought it was just me. It's been happening for a while when I have more than five or so tabs open on Neowin. I had a similar issue with another site which I fixed by disabling javascript for that site.
HoochieMamma
It's happening here too, it's the recent posts automatic update. I'm sure of it, when I have it hidden it doesn't do it.
Jokez
Whenever I try to go on the forums here on Firefox or Opera it doesn't work for me but I can go on the main page of Neowin. The forums only work when I'm on IE. Anyone know what might be the problem?

I'm sure of it, when I have it hidden it doesn't do it. i think you're right. cpu usage maxes out at 25-30% with the recent posts shown and 3% when hidden. Smashing Pumpkin
Hmm, just suffered a bought of this disease tonight, only tonight though and I browse neowin daily, it isn't happening now either, but I'm gonna change back to the old skin anyway, kinda prefer it and only just noticed it has lots of different colours to choose from! I was gettin 90 - 99 % cpu usage and 81 megs of ram used by FF 2.0.0.4 only extensions are fasterfox and IE View Lite. Took around 30 secs to change tabs, FF was hanging terribly etc. :( Rich xxx
curme
I made some changes to the code. Is it any better now? Heck yeah! Thanks Redmak! Now if you could fix that IE6 problem at work... j/k Thanks for the hardwork!
wd40
I'm not sure if it's me or neowin but I just upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.6 and I think this was going on before, but for the past day while I'm sitting idle on a page on neowin, it automatically refreshes and sits there spinning like it's trying to reload the page but it never does and it's a blank page. I have to manually hit the reload/refresh button and the page shows up. I think it has something to do with the new Latest Forum Activity feature with it's actively updating. Anyone else have this problem?
kimsland
I've updated too on Firefox, but all is OK. Usually when I see these type of faults I go to default options for everything in Firefox settings. Also do update on java (control panel) and I even do flash and shockwave updates, then try again. If all else fails (after confirming all updates firefox and other) it's an uninstall/reinstall firefox time
tao muon
I'm not having the aformentioned problem at all with IE7 and Vista. The only automatic refreshes I get are for the most recent topics. I've left the site open in a window for over 12 hours and not had a problem like that. Hope you get it figured out.
wd40
Yeah I think it's something to do with the new "Latest Forum Activity" feature that was just added because I never had a problem yesterday when that feature wasn't there. I don't know about IE7 as I haven't tried it yet but I do know it's affecting Firefox.
Shasoosh
lately neowin made a change in their forum adding the " Latest Forum Activity " frame on top of the forums ,when this frames updates my cpu jumps to 100 cpu for a second, if i have more then 2-3 tabs open my system gets really slow and i can't surf. any one noticed it? can i remove it in some way? Japlabot
Same in Firefox on Mac OS X. I get a prompt that there is an unresponsive script and to Stop/Continue the execution
Lexcyn
I get that too on Firefox using Vista + XP. Also, I noticed sometimes the page will try and refresh and I end up with just a white screen - I have to click Back and then click the link again. 4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted July 31, 2007 Veteran Share Posted July 31, 2007 i notisce this on opera too ( 9.22 ). it is new and rather annoying. sometimes i have to shut down opera and then i find its still running and using 80 or 90% of cpu still ! so i have to task manager close it. and restart. then its okay for a while. i love the new feature but i think it is causing serious problems, like you say. i am testing not having the autoupdate to see if that fixes it
Shasoosh
you can disable it with the + next to the search - but it doesn't stop the hanging for me https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...amp;p=588741117 but its keep coming back it's really slowing up my system Edited July 31, 2007 by Shasoosh

Steven P. Administrators Posted July 31, 2007 Administrators Share Posted July 31, 2007 It can't be Neowin because when the area is collapsed it simply does not update in the background, reducing network traffic to your PC from Neowin. I also have no CPU jumps when it updates on my system, it will of course use CPU time so that your PC can display the new content.
