4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted August 1, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2007 this happens in opera too. even with the updater closed i still get lockups in opera ( and this is from only visiting neowin since restarting the program ).
bakup
I have the same problem using Firefox 2.0.0.6. I think its caused by the "Latest Forum Activity" box. Can the site mods make the "Latest Forum Activity" box hidden as the default?
kylejn
Yeah, it seems to be happening in IE7 as well. No error message appears, but the main forum page is just real slow and unresponsive.

Jock Horror
I had the same problem with Firefox 2.0.0.6 and I was using Opera to see the forum. I've just installed the NoScript extension. Problem fixed, but cannot use quick reply though....
Fred Derf Veteran Posted August 1, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2007 I had the same problem with Firefox 2.0.0.6 and I was using Opera to see the forum. I've just installed the NoScript extension. Problem fixed, but cannot use quick reply though.... It is much easier to click the "Stop" link on the Recent Forum Posts header or just minimize the entire thing (using the +/- button) until we have this sorted. TogaForComfort
Another one here with the issue. Firefox and Camino on 10.4.10 hang for a bit, I then get a message about an unresponsive script with a continue or stop option. Works fine in safari or with older themes. sn00pie
Recently, my browser (Firefox 2.0.0.4) has been locking up (acting really slow with 90% CPU usage) whenever I open any Neowin pages. The problem occurs even quicker when I open multiple tabs. I don't think the problem is with my machine because I can open 30+ tabs from any other site with out any slow down or problems. My system specs are obviously fast enough to handle Neowin and the same thing happens to me on my laptop. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? same problem here. Hum
I've had many times where the Neowin pages just stop loading -- the Firefox window is blank. I have to Refresh. I do not use Tabs. I had one day where every Topic viewed, the Firefox window became 'scrambled'. I think it disappeared when I closed and restarted Firefox tho. My CPU usage is jumping between 0 and 33% -- but then I have a few other programs open. A few times the Firefox browser just freezes, and there seems to be a loop of high CPU usage, until I stop the process. I don't know if this is related, but after version 2.0 [or .04, not sure] when Firefox updated, it throws up the message that the newer versions are not compatible with Java. I think maybe stopping with Firefox 1.5 version is a good idea. DragonKid
I sometimes get the "an script may cause high cpu usage, do you want to stop it?" message in firefox I'm getting that too. Actually, I'm getting it twice. Firefox stops responding, asks the question, and then does it again after I tell it to continue.

Fred Derf Veteran Posted August 2, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 2, 2007 Can we stop the "Latest Forum Activity" ? Click the "Stop" link or close the header altogether (using the +/- button that is immediately left of "Quick Links").
BajiRav
Click the "Stop" link or close the header altogether (using the +/- button that is immediately left of "Quick Links"). Fred I can't even do that. My firefox immediately beach balls (osx) on opening forums. It is really bad.

kickenchicken360
same here, script error, i was freaking out everytime it locked up (thought my comp was going bad) turns out Neowin is the culprit.

-Hiroshi-
Switched to Swift and the freezing has stopped for me aswell. Apparently it's the code.. I noticed that it started when that tree view at the top of the forum was released. Ironically, it works in Safari just fine. Firefox, Opera, and IE all crash due to unresponsive script. .KICK
Using Shift and keep getting the script error , tell it to stop running script and it loads Neowin otherwise it crashes , using 2.0.0.6 with no add-ons

KitCh
Cleared cache and cookies and everything works fine for me!
Fred Derf Veteran Posted August 2, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 2, 2007 The coderators do update the code from time to time and unless you press Ctrl-F5 then you can't be guaranteed to be using the latest scripts. Clearing you cache should have a similar effect. The problem may actually have been solved some time ago.
