KitCh
I will remove the auto update function until I come up with something less resource intensive. It's an ipb module atm, I think that causes it to be a little slow. I wonder what's causing the problem though. My system (Pentium D 3.4GHz / 2Gb mem / Vista) never uses more than 20% of my cpu resources (and then only for a very short period when the update takes place) Yeh same here. After I cleared my cache I had no problems with the script or browsing Neowin! Strange how people are still getting some troubles with this script! Hmmm
the_guy
I'd get the Stop Script error with one tab open, but ONLY the first page I visited. Whenever I would visit forums and threads after that first page there would be no problem. Addon cleaning and clearing the cache fixed it! the_guy
gdodson
You can disable it.... instead of finding ways to completely disable functionality by using an adblock (btw... that post was removed)... just LOOK and see the minus button near the top.Problem solved. I have not experienced this script error. Be sure to clear your cache. Clearing the cache, cookies, etc doesn't fix a thing. It still happens with every new Firefox session. Like Symphony said, disabling the box doesn't really fix the problem, it's just ignoring it. What's the point of having a feature if it doesn't work properly? And I want to use it, so disabling it isn't the solution.
SMELTN
I am getting it also. I thought it was just the August Desktop thread that was doing it....hehe.. now I know why. Although I didnt even notice the box up top.. Now I think its kinda cool. Although the script error is horrible.
thunderrooster
I am getting the Warning: Unresponsive script in firefox also
zeroday
It started again :/ If I try to open the ajax updating thread list, FF gives me a message with debug, continue or stop. Continuing makes FF unresponsive :/
smctainsh
I am also getting this error, but only once per Firefox session. It also seems to affect the loading of the topics on the page (if I go to a forum first). It seems that some of the topics in that particular forum are only showing if they were there the last time I visited the forum. Smctainsh
kickenchicken360
same here, if i stop the script on one session, i have no issues. this also happens with IE sometimes

Fred Derf Veteran Posted August 5, 2007 Veteran Share Posted August 5, 2007 In case Redmak has implemented any fixes, I suggest people do a Ctrl-F5* to ensure that have the latest code. *or clear your browser cache

j.r.l.
I can confirm that on first load of Neowin.net (the forums), I have to disable Javascript to load the webpage, or I get a unusable Firefox. I'll take a screenshot next time ;)
altermind
this script totally kills anything that use's the mozilla rendering system.. mac or pc... makes no difference... it's total death to anyone with a single core computer also... I've tested it and it's still happening as of 5th august 2007 6 pm aussie time... the minimising of that area also does not seem to prevent this. only happens on neowin with forum pages open. Blackhearted
I'm getting things like this too. Unless i go into settings and disable javascript completely neowin renders my Firefox useless. I'm running the newest version, 2.0.0.6.
kouhii00
I have this problem at my comp at work with IE7. It has Symantec AV on it which is one of the problem I think...
cyrl
when i opened neowin with firefox 2 latest version it gives a pop up about scripts saying to stop the script or contiune :( and the memory usage is high
Obraxis
I also am having this problem - only started within the last 2 days and only on the forums. It freezes, then comes up with the 'stop script' warning box but then freezes totally :(
Bhav
Same problem as soon as I go to the forums. Firefox just stops responding. How could you neowin? :( Edit: I don't have problems if I disable javascript...but that's not exactly ideal. Edited August 5, 2007 by Bhav
jimbo12141
My Macbook was also having problems recently. Seemed fine today, but i did get a message telling me about a non-responisve script.
Spik3balloon
I had this issue over the past few days, so I cleared my cache (and my Neowin cookies for good measure), as suggested by Fred, and it seems to have resolved itself.

planetik
Same thing happened here whenever I opened a link that had the forum activity script at the top. It only seemed to happen on one of my firefox profiles so I just cleared the cache+cookies for Neowin and it started working again :)
TimRogers
I don't come on Neowin very often nowadays, but I am also having this problem. I tried to load the page, and the first time Firefox completely froze, as did the second time. The third time I got a script error, so I told it to debug. It took me to a line related to JQuery.
