VidER
Hi All.. I am looking for a basic CMS that is very easy to customize.. I mean to make it look exactly like my site EASILY. I am not looking for too much features.. something basic with users management + news in different categories. PHP would be great.. Please don't ask me to write my own cause I can't :( I prefer ones that are well published since I would be able to find help and support easily.. Thanks Guys. 0 Jessterw
I would recommend Movable Type, however it is written in PERL and not PHP. However it is extremely flexible and you can get lots of help on it.
0 Steven P. Administrators Posted January 1, 2003 Administrators Share Posted January 1, 2003 If you are happy with PERL then I recommend Greymatter its what Neowin used before we switched to PHP.
0 Jessterw
Yeah Greymatter is another good one, been awhile since I've used it... kinda slipped from my memory.
0 VidER
I don't know about PERL  no PHP alternatives? is there a script with "grabber" feature? Like this one I found: http://www.fusionphp.com Its easy to use and what I mean by "Grabbr" is that I can place the news anywhere in my page by using certain tags.. I mean users will not log into the script itself.. they will just visit my static HTML pages with my own design.. and inside a design I can add a tag like this one: <!--#include virtual="news/headlines.txt" --> and it will grab the headlines from my script to the html page even if it was not in the same folder.. The only bad thing about it is that it is only a news script.. I can't have more than one category.. Anyways thanks jesterzwild & Neobond .. And please feel free to suggest any other scripts that you know. VidER

0 CitruS
Perl isn't very different PHP. Infact, PHP started as a Perl module. Just try Greymatter out. You will not see a difference from a PHP Greymatter from a Perl Greymatter unless you plan to a high traffic site.
0 Geronimo
www.e107.org i second this. The community behind this is great too
0 VidER
Thanks guys.. I have tried to install Greymatter but it didn't work :-( I made sure to upload them in the required method (ASCII/Binary).. and to CHMOD them correctly.. and I did it more than once and it always gave me the 500 error! Anyways I will try something else.. e107 most probably although nobody told me if it has the "Grabber" feature.. Movable Type looks nice also.. but I will leave it until I try e107 since Movable Type is in PERL. I prefer PHP cause it makes less load on the server.. the site is new.. but who knows how many hits will I get by next year.. and I don't want to change the script every now and then.. Thanks again guys and please reply if you have any other recommendations. VidER
