.RAR archives

Question

Bon

Hmmmmm, lets say that a .rar file is infected with a virus? Can you still get a virus if you didn't extract it?

Do you only get a virus if you extract it?

Nope, viruses contained in compressed archives (zip, rar, etc) would contain a virus but you'd have to extract it and then execute the virus file you extracted. Like corrosive23 said though, most virus scanners will catch the virus before you even get to extracting it.

Yea, like Kaspersky will catch the virus before you've even downloaded it, you click the link start downloading usually half way through it will catch it, if the RAR is passworded then it popup say Rar passworded on side and then you would have to extract it for it to catch it.

Keeping a snake in a closed bottle will keep you safe... just don't open it up.

Use any anti virus scanner such as Norton, NOD32 and just select the archives, right click then click your antivirus scanner. You will definitely know then if you have a virus waiting to pounce at you.
