playing mpeg movies in firefox

Recommended Posts

I have quicktime installed but have mpeg movies deselected in the options. Windows Media Player currently is the default for mpeg files. But in firefox I still get quicktime and as of lately quicktime crashed firefox a lot in vista. So how do I tell firefox to use WMP instead of Quicktime for mpeg.

thats the thing is that the plugin is correctly installed, and the association for mpeg is set to WMP. In IE7 mpeg will pull up the embedded WMP, but not in firefox

If you're just trying to get rid of QT playing MPEG content in Fx, try installing VLC and use its Mozilla plugin.

Otherwise, you can confirm you have the Firefox WMP plugin installed?

Now that I don't know - actually its done it so long on my system I'd never considered the behavior abnormal. There should be some program hooks that tell it to rum minimized, maximize, etc. That might do it. Google it and also double check the mozilla site for anyone having already found you solution - that's where I read about the extension, in the knowledge base.

well today out of nowhere quicktime updated itself on its own and firefox went back to the old way of embedded quicktime is this normal behavior for quicktime/firefox?

i hate that the only reason I have quicktime is for the odd occasion that I have to watch a .mov file on my pc, but I didnt ask it to take over my file types and not only that quicktimes file selection is set only to .mov
