zarniwoop
I am a little disgusted by the amount of mem firefox is using and am considering switching to opera or maxthon. How do those two compare to firefox and each other with respect to memory usage?

solardog
Opera and IE7 use about the same for me. around 50mb...in normal situations(few tabs) FireFox does grab a bunch of memory as it needs it, but it does release it instantly if minimized. Ive got 2 gigs of ram so it doesnt bother me and I think every app should use ram thats just sitting there if available as long as it lets it go when not needed or as other apps come into play. OPaul
Maxthon 1 uses less memory on average then Firefox. At the moment, it appears Maxthon 2 is using about the same. Version 2 was just released, so hopefully something will be done about it.
zarniwoop
I really like maxthon, and when ver2 gets more established I might start using it more.
Zmark
Maxthon final (well, official public release) is using about half the resources than firefox on my machine. Don't know about Opera.........but Max is also more resourceful than IE 7. I usually have 5 tabs max open.

But when more tabs are opened maxthon will use less than IE7 as maxthon shared toolbars, menus, status bar etc for all tabs while IE7, though tabbed, has a set of toolbars, menus for each tab. :)
soldier1st
opera seems to take less memory than firefox but firefox loves memory but opera will consume a bit,i am not too sure about ie shell based browsers, they use parts of ie and share ie's security problems. betasp
Why does memory usage matter to you? Why did you even bother looking?
