I agree that GD should be removed from the ticker, but I would hate to see all mature content moved to subscribers only. While that might be enough motivation for some to pay up (including myself) the discussion on inappropriate topics would suffer due to a much small user pool. While such topics are not what this site is primarily for it is a good way for me to relax and communicate with like minded individuals.

I enjoy being able to come to this site and read about/discuss the latest tech news as well as kicking back and making a few off-color jokes.

The best thing to do is to subscribe. Its only 12 bucks and you have an all access pass to snypers best work. While its still not rascist or completely offensive, they can be from more "risqe"

The unofficial snyper guide to rules to Backstage pass jokes and humor material

So no rascist jokes - except french jokes.. i retain the right to make jokes about the french ;) :p

No dead baby jokes - ive tonnes of them but too sick for some ppl and inappropriate even in the backstage

No over explicit or graphic sex jokes. we need to remember there are underage members in the subscribers forum

No images of porn, even tho im teh snyper, some things are best left to the imagination ;)

The backstage pass is still moderatewd and has the same rules, although a little less strict its up to the members not to abuse the "relaxed rules" - other wise, it just ****es of the staff, ad they will just tighten the rules...

Ok, I tried to talk to a mod about this, but I never got a response to my last PM.

I understand what you are trying to do. And to some degree I agree with it.

However, by putting a thread like "The Official Homosexuality Thread" in the subscription only area, you are making some statements that I'm not sure you want to make.

For example, by saying that a topic like homosexuality is too controversial to be "safe for work" while leaving threads that deal with racism, war, global warming, and all manner of other topics open to everyone, you are saying that somehow homosexuality is more controversial or inappropriate than the other topics.

You are banning public discussion of homosexuality. So if I, as a non-subscriber, start a topic to deal with an issue related to homosexuality, will this be moved to the subscribers-only area, and therefore out of my view?

I was (quite honestly) getting ready to subscribe to Neowin anyway, just really to support it more than anything else. But now that you've made this move, I don't think I can do that.

If you think being gay is worse than war, that's your prerogative. But just know that you are spreading the notion that being gay is something that shouldn't be talked about, except in private. You are saying that being gay is something that should be hidden away, something that is inherently offensive to most people.

You might want to reconsider that stance, or at least publicly clarify it. Or, if you check the gender/sexuality superpoll in Poll Station, you might see that you will have a lot of angry members.

We will be adding the community rules button back next to Quick Links (in red) like we have on the old theme.

Wasn't the point of Quick Links to reduce the amount of "wastage" on the page, and its like one click difference now to get to it.

Also the links on the front forum page look slightly out of place. maybe they would look better centered.

So they take your subscriber status away for being on restriction? But you pay money for it...

It's not taking away his subscription, it's putting him in another member group that doesn't have the badge and orange plus sign. There's no point of having twice as many member groups for the minute number of subcribers that get temporary bans, profile restrictions etc.

From what I've gathered, there are multiple member groups (like 2), so you will have one saying Restricted (or such), and the second saying you're a Subscriber, to the system it's still the same, you just look different to the public.

I saw that with Jase, he had his public group set to a normal group, and his other set to a Subscriber, so he was a sub without a badge, but with all the special features.

The following forums have been removed from all forum feeds (including RSS)

- All forums in the General & Off Topic Discussion category

- Neobahn

- Sporting Arena

- NFN (Nerd free news, or non tech news items)

The Latest forum activity monitor may appear empty until 10 topics in the tech related areas have been responded to (or new topics started).

Hm.. but why NFN? It's news, as any news site would display. I check that forum nearly the most, so it's a little bit of a bummer to have it off. :p But I suppose that your reasoning is correct.
