mshepp
A while ago i read around about setting up a duel boot on my laptop (currently running XP). It sounded quite risky and that it could corrupt the XP partition, is there a safe way of doing duel boot? Thanks
Lant
I don't see how it could corrupt your xp partition as long as you install to a different disk/partition. You will loose your XP boot manager to grub through (xp's can be restored using the disk).
markwolfe Veteran Posted October 14, 2007 Veteran Share Posted October 14, 2007 Safe way: Backup your data (all good users should already have a current backup, anyhow) ;) Use Windows' own checkdisk to make sure your partitions are healthy Defrag Shrink one of your partitions to make room for Linux. Not supported natively in XP, you must use a 3rd party tool (like gparted). Re-do the checkdisk to make sure your Windows drives are still ok. Install Linux, tell it to use unused drivespace. Install GRUB to the MBR of your boot drive (default install option). Reboot and you will have dual-booting between Linux and Windows.
