vipwoody
Hey Guys, It's been like 2 days since I first installed Opera Web Browser, it is amazing! better than Mozilla Firefox in many ways. It is so fast, never crashes here.. even though I am using an Alpha version. It starts quickly and has some widgets (which I don't use). Why do people talk talk talk about Mozilla, since there is a pretty cool, clean and sexy browser called Opera? If you are a Mozilla Firefox user, please state why you hate Opera. Thank you :) Woody
Tantawi
Choice. I use Firefox, but I do not hate Opera! Firefox fits my needs, fast, clean, pretty customizable to be exactly the way I like as UI and extensions, I see no need to use another browser. I'm sure Opera users will say the same, as it's really a matter of choice, not love and hate. But I HATE Safari on Windows though :p
exUBERance
lol hate is an understate ment for my feelings towards Safari... Opera is nice. i use them both actually. testing purposus and also school computers are all screwed up so some have IE some have FireFox and some have Opera... halcyoncmdr
I love Opera, and I like Mozilla. I just don't like Mozilla more than Opera :p Its pretty much personal preference, and of course extensions. They truly are easy.
russellc
I don't use Mozilla Firefox, but I use it's Mac OS X native counterpart, Camino. I prefer it to Opera for the very same reasons I prefer other browsers to Opera on other operating systems. I don't like it's interface too much and I get a headache from trying to configure it to my liking every time I try it out (because I always hear about how it's so great). So I usually retreat to something which is simple, does not require much configuration and does the job (I enjoy interface consistency throughout my desktop environment). I don't hate it though, I just prefer other browsers. I do use it on other devices though, such as my S60 phone, I use Opera Mini and it is much better than the default browser. I use that a lot. The Wii also has Opera on it although I suppose I don't use that much.

night_stalker_z
The only thing I dont like about Opera is when you close a tab it goes back to the tab that opened it, not the one next to it. The content blocker isnt as flexible as AdBlock Plus but I can live without that. Once they fix the tab thing or give us an option to choose then I will prpbably use Opera. AlexMagik
i like opera, will use if: 1. It will have a "Web developer" toolbar like firefox (so i can check easily if the page is CSS, javascript, xhtml compliant in 1 click) 2. The adblocker will works as does ad plus for FF (in opera doesn't work that well) 3. Integrates with Flashget if any of you guys can cover these 3 points, i will be happy to switch :)
Digitalx
i been using mozilla 10 years or so, so firefox is most fimiliar to me in terms of navigating and features but opera is a great browser still
BoDEAN
Wait til firefox 3.0 comes out. Think it should be any day now, no?

I think it has it built in. You may need to customise some buttons otherwise you can download the addon. 2. I agree. Currently it only removes ads not shrink the space between them. 3. It intergrates for me. FlashGet 1.
vipwoody
but, according to speeds... Opera is the fastest in loading pages. I don't know anything about the new upcoming FF3, but I just read that it will have a newer body. Goodnight :)
exUBERance
Wait til firefox 3.0 comes out. Think it should be any day now, no? ehhh dont be too sure about that... FF is better than Opera for developing and for surfing but its uses enourmous amounts of resources >.< even on linux... Opera's ad blocker is lacking but its fast and its ok for developing with a few addons. All in all its a toss up. i use FF mostly because ive gotten used to it but like i said before i end up using them both for testing webpages and developing websites and stuff like that... gigapixels Veteran Posted October 22, 2007 Veteran Share Posted October 22, 2007 Honestly the only reason I don't use Opera over Firefox is that I just don't like the "feel" of the Opera interface. I have no qualms with it otherwise... But I just can't get used to it whenever I try it.

shakey_snake
When I was first looking for an alternative to IE6 on the recommendation of a friend I tried Opera (v7 maybe). It started up with a lot of cluttered toolbars, and had problems rendering some pages I'd run into. It kept me spyware free, but I was never really comfortable with it. A couple months later, on the recommendation of another friend I tried Firebird (0.7 at the time). It seemed to do a better job at rendering and was much simpler. Plus it had a great extensions system. I really haven't looked back. I've tried Opera some other times (usually on well publicized releases), but it still does some things which annoy me: For instance, it scrolls at half a page per mouse wheel bump rather than the standard windows setting (which I have set to where I like). I will still run into pages that don't render right. One page I recently designed worked rendered in everything but Presto. I don't like how presto will render a page before an external style sheet can download. IMO, it's not any sort of speed advantage, it's just sloppy. I don't like that the menubar can't be treated like the rest of the toolbars. Even K-Meleon has this option. It can't replicate the function set I've achieved via firefox's extension system. Furthermore, Firefox has some other advantages: I appreciate that Firefox is open source. Security holes are promptly patched, and the partial patcher system is really one of a kind. I don't always get the impression that the Opera team is being completely honest. This attitude seems to extend to a user base that can't be completely honest with itself at times. Purple Haze
I like Opera, but Firefox's extensions and customization is unmatched. Out of the box, yeah, Opera's a bit better, but five minutes of tweaking and Firefox, for me, is 10x better.
Hankyone
I liked Opera too but I decided to stay with Firefox because of all those extensions, you can find one that let you do pretty much anything
shakey_snake
I'm not going to participate in another "browser war" conversation so this will be my last post in this thread. Someone asked and I gave my reasons. But since you've asked: here: http://www.heise-security.co.uk/news/83279 but not it's not just that, other things as well: Opera scrolls faster than window's standard setting so that it "feels faster" Opera renders pages before downloading an external stylesheet so that it "seems faster" Opera will execute close tab on mouse-click down rather than the windows standard "mouse release" so that it "feels faster" Opera has been know to "cheat" on some Javascript benchmarking tests so that it gives lower benchmarks. Opera Uses the same amount of Virtual Memory, and nearly the same amount of handles and GDI Objects as Firefox when it comes to rendering pages, but it's "Mem usage" column in the Task manager reads lower so that it "looks lighter on resources". And virtually all security holes listed in securnia are from sources inside the company. Since opera is a private company we have no way of knowing that there aren't some known bugs right now. Where as both of those bugs you've listed for Firefox has been publically disclosed with suggested workarounds until it is patched: http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2...fsa2007-29.html http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2...fsa2007-28.html You tell me what's a more up front and honest way fo dealing with security. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted October 22, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted October 22, 2007 I just don't like Opera because of the interface, it doesn't blend in very well with Windows. Particularly the dialog windows. Actual browsing performance and rendering capability, sure. I know it's good. I'm just comfortable with Firefox's interface. 4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted October 22, 2007 Veteran Share Posted October 22, 2007 I love Opera and used it for a long time when I was using Windows. I switched to Linux and am happy with Firefox. I could install Opera on Linux and maybe I will do some time. I don't know why I haven't, to be honest. Opera was always my favourite and still is. Both really do what I want. When I was using Windows they both made me feel safer. Now I'm on Linux the safety thing is not really a worry. I don't know what is going through my mind----maybe I'll install Opera right now, come to think of it ! :D
