roadgeek9
IE didn't have any of these in 2004: RSS, tabs, pop-up blocker, lack of security.
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted November 9, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted November 9, 2007 I actually can't remember why I switched. I have always been a new tech trier type person, so maybe it was just curiosity. It has been at least 3 years with Firefox now.

The_Decryptor Veteran Posted November 9, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 9, 2007 I know what the OP thread was but it's intrinsicly biased. Some people do not switch to 'X' browser. Some people "can't". So I present my experience. I've had the good fortune to be asked to configure two computer systems... ... one came pre-installed with Firefox and the other Mozilla / Netscape. I quite quickly uninstalled those because they don't work for what we need. We have our own standards to comply with and those don't comply. Yes, biased towards people who are using Firefox. It's not asking people why they switched to other browsers, it's asking people why they switched to Firefox.
sy64
I thought the name was pretty cool but I mainly changed for the tabs and when I read closer into things and saw better security it was a no brainer. The switch was a bit of a pain having being an IE fanboy for so long but I looked through all the extensions and found everything that I liked from IE. Been with Firefox since 0.7 and have no intention of using anything else. For me it would be like poking a 2 bit fat ugly broad when you've got a babe waiting at home for you!! Spitfire_x86
Tabs, built-in popup blocker, integrated search box Switched to FF since they added offline browsing (probably 0.8)
Lord Nite
One of the reasons I switched to Firefox, was the tabbed browsing, and the extensions. I love to customize my system, when I can, and Firefox was completely customizable. I also installed it because me and my wife share the same computer, and I wanted my own set of bookmarks, as did she. While I use Firefox mainly, I still use IE 7 for some sites that need ActiveX (Windows Update) to work.

Harlem39s Finest
tabs, then extensions made me stay with FF ...
IceDogg
At fist it was security.. I was tired of drive by installed spyware (even though I locked down IE tight) but then it became more about the customization, including extensions (now called add-ons). Be careful it's easy to get carried away with all you can do to Firefox. Before I get flamed IE7 seems to be more secure (according to the experts) but back then it Definitely wasn't. ViperAFK
around 1.0.x when I thought ie was the internet. My friend was like omg download this. and I was all like omg alright. myrhymeandreason
THEN: Tabs, it was something new. NOW: (Never go back).. Tabs, AdBlock, Bookmarks Toolbar, Weather addon, Download Statusbar, Fasterfox.. addons in general. :)
PermaSt0ne
first was security. then i discovered extensions, tabs and the bookmark toolbar at the top. that and i found a theme that's absolutely perfect for me and since it was kinda new (only switched when 1.0 came out) there was lots of community support if you had a problem. people tweaking and picking it apart, sharing what they found i never liked IE anyways. too "bubbly" if you can figure out what i mean by that
Berserk87
ive been using firefox pretty much since it came out. #1 - i was on shawlite back then (25k download speeds :pinch: ) and the speed difference between firefox and IE was HUGE! its not as noticeable now that im on high speed. #2 - security #3 - tabs
Dinggus
I heard it was better than IE via spyware/adware, so I tried it and fell in love with it.

xploit1030
Tabs, pop-up blocking, and adblock. And although the question was what made us stay, once IE7 came out I didn't. Frankly IE is on every computer I work on (it is a part of our baseline, while Firefox is not). What I use at work it what I end up using at home. Quillz
Like most others, I've switched to Firefox because of the Gecko rendering engine and extensions. Although I did avoid Firefox on Mac OS X for a long time, up until the recent release of Firefox 3 Beta. It works much better on OS X, and the new default theme is far more "Mac-like." RedFlow
Tabs, and just general curiosity...I used FireFox before IE7 came out. And plus I like FireFox's extensions and themes (I think that also promted me to change)
