~impuLsive
Hey there, For school, we need to bring in one song, and describe what It means. Of course, It has to be appropriate and nothing too stupid. Does anyone have any good recommendations that have a great meaning to them? I was thinking of Ludacris ft Mary J Blige - Runaway Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7OSqzchdks). Sad song IMO, but any others? Thanks. Hurmoth
One of my favorite songs is The Dance by Garth Brooks. I'm not much of a country person, but that is an awesome song though!
shakey_snake
The Gift by the Velvet Underground The meaning is don't ship yourself in a box. What is the point of this? A little context would help.

wst50
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQb2WXSqyl4 virtual Insanity's good for deep meanings- it's all about genetic engineering and the ethics/morals of it. It was released the day after 'Dolly the sheep' was announced by scientists.
Zoue
Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven He wrote it after his young son died in an accident, you can't get much more meaning than that, and it's a fantastic song.

troist
Echoes by pink floyd if you want a hard but interesting task... its a 23 minute song though (although like 90% instrumentals) so that might be too long. Its really poetic and thought enticing. I think its about evolution, but even after 100+ listenings I have no idea what it really is about. The lyrics are beautiful though. Otherwise I'd go for 10,000 days by tool which is a really obscure and strangely written song until you know its about his mother's death. Lost keys/Rosetta stoned by tool is also a good song (its two, but they're pretty much the same song) about a guy's acid trip and how he thought the trip was telling him something but he couldn't remember... you have to listen to the song really. All of those songs are really long though and would be pretty hard to explain unless you've listened to them a few hundred times. They are all really interesting songs. You can cheat and use songmeanings.net for a shorter song's meanings :p Its a really useful site.
xithium
A million and one songs have some meaning :p . One that springs to mind which might be good is REM - Everybody Hurts, it's a song which emotes quite a lot of feeling amongst people. Personally I would look into Beatles songs, the meaning of them is usually pretty obvious as many of the songs follow a storytelling lyrical style, and where it isn't, you can always just blame the acid they were all on at the time :woot: . For example, the Beatles' song help!: Help! I need somebody,Help! Not just anybody, Help! You know I need someone, Help! I think the meaning's quite clear ;) . Of course the meaning of the film Help! is anyone's guess but I digress  .

Liandros
to be honest, one song is not going to have the best meaning. it is all open to interpretation. the way you see the message in the song maybe completely different than say how bob sees it. you may find alot of songs with emotion in them but the message behind it is maybe not as deep. best thing to do is to find a song that you really like, and spend a few hours analyzing the lyrics. my english class has done this a few times and they way you hear the song after you analyze it is amazingly different. metallithrax
Pick the meaning out of this one then. "By-Tor And The Snow Dog" Tobes of Hades, lit by flickering torchlight The netherworld is gathered in the glare Prince By-Tor takes the cavern to the north light The sign of Eth is rising in the air By-Tor, knight of darkness Centurion of evil, devil's prince Across the River Styx, out of the lamplight His nemesis is waiting at the gate The Snow Dog, ermine glowing in the damp night Coal-black eyes shimmering with hate By-Tor and the Snow Dog Square for battle, let the fray begin The battle's over and the dust is clearing Disciples of the Snow Dog sound the knell Rejoicing echoes as the dawn is nearing By-Tor, in defeat, retreats to Hell Snow Dog is victorious The land of the Overworld is saved again
