Mozilla FireFox 3.0 Betas

Recommended Posts

I think a small bit of clarification that nightlys are NOT official beta releases... they are just the most recent code complied.

Agreed. Betas are when they reached a stableish state when nightlys are built every day where it works or not. The non public beta 1 seems quite stable though.

I've found the Windows nightly builds to be stable 99% of the time, I've pretty much been exclusively using Firefox 3.0 for the last 8 months or so across Windows and Linux (yes I am that keen).

One good thing I've gotten out of the experience is that I have learned to survive without browser extensions.

tough guy

i my self need the auto hide status bar, menu editor, mouse gestures and no go buttons. It's all about minimalism and firefox 3 sucks at that

The supposed Beta 2 of Firefox 3 is out about some days, but i'm asking myself:

If Firefox 3 Beta 1 isn't at final version (yes, now seems that beta versions has Final versions too) how can be already a beta 2 out?

Well, maybe this seems stupid, but how can a BETA version have a RC version or a FINAL version of itself?

Firefox 3 Beta 1 RC1

what's next?

Firefox 3 Beta 1 Final?

i almost imagine what will be the first version of Firefox 4...

Firefox 4 Alpha 1 Beta 1 RC1

It's not complicated. It's simply a BETA release candidate.

a BETA Release Candidate?

Well, that's new to me, it's the first time i see this.

Plus, BETA versions and Release Candidates (RC) are NOT the same thing, whatever.

I think i'm go back to Opera when the 9.50 final version comes out.

Beta 1 isn't even out yet and people are already talking about beta 2, which will be out next year btw. January probably. Beta 1 will bring nothing worth testing imo, for a normal user... Beta 2 on the other hand will feature the new Places UI, hopefully anyway, they keep delaying it. :p

Wow, this is a VERY mis-leading thread.

Mozilla has NO Firefox 3 releases yet. Not Beta 1, not Beta 2, nothing.

They have nightly builds that have always been available. They are not a beta releases.

They *will* have a beta release. When they do, it will be in the /RELEASES/ folder.

2.0 Beta 1, 2.0 Beta 2, 2.0 RC1, 2.0 RC2, and 2.0 RC3 all had official releases. There are no 3.0 releases yet.

Why do I keep seeing threads like this?

That's really good, base your decision on what browser to use on their naming scheme for unreleased builds!

Well, you can try the builds fond in the link in the OP.

No guarantees that it's going to be stable or even usable, though. It's still an Alpha release.

Always backup your user profile.

Ok guys, my biggest concern, is it really worth upgrading to FF3?? I haven't seen a whole lot of changes that are going to make a big difference, than what is already in FF??

I've alo noticed, that about 98% of the add-ons for FF2 do not work in FF3??? Any resolution on this any time soon???

For now, I'm staying on FF2 until all the bugs & kinks are worked out. Other than that FF Fan all the way!!!

Thanks,

Yeah, time. add-ons improve as the browser gets released publicly.

Apart from the UI looking native for your platform, theres not really much reason to use FF3 unless your beta testing. As for the add-ons you can ask the authors to update, update it yourself or wait until FF3 reaches final.

There's also the fact that it's UI and rendering speed are WAY faster. Also places is pretty cool.

Actually, sure. Shift Linux has been in RC for .5 for months, a beta and an RC can exist for a particular build.

Odd but often seen.
