PS3 FW 2.0 Breaking PS3s?

Recommended Posts

Wednesday 14-Nov-2007 12:02 PM Forums erupt with complaints

It's being reported that the latest major PS3 firmware update, version 2.0, could be at the heart of a problem that's causing a number of PS3s to cease working.

A notably large number of PS3 owners have hit the official site to voice concerns of their PS3 functioning incorrectly since installing the update.

Complains range from a small as slowed menu navigation and slow PS Store download speeds to more critical errors such as games consistently crashing or even the PS3 completely losing the ability to read discs.

Others have also complained on the official forum that their PS3 keeps turning itself on due to the new Remote Start feature in FW 2.0 (which allows you to turn on your PS3 wirelessly via the internet for Remote Play via a PSP).

It's worth noting that the timing of the errors could be completely coincidental. It's not uncommon for users who experience errors soon after an update to point the finger of blame at the new firmware.

We've checked our updated PS3s - everything's working just fine (phew). Voice any issues you may have experienced in the comments below.

Sony was not available for comment at the time of writing but we'll keep trying.

Havent had any problems here . . . yet :p

Same here. Although i haven't downloaded anything from the store to see if i get slow download speeds. I know that Warhawk has stopped working for some people but it seem to work for me, however, it did crash once on Sunday but i don't think it has to do with the firmware...

Well. Warhawk no longer works for me and the PS3 web browser is broke too. :(

the web browser stopped working for me after the upgrade. i tinkered around with the network settings a bit (like disconnect, reconnect) and it fixed the problem

I have had no problems but a coworker is having the remote play issue (he had to disable remote play to stop the PS3 from randomly powering on).

I got that issue too, seems to be similar to the wake-on-lan stuff we have on pc's

pain in the derrier, as I'd love to enable remote start

If you go to Settings -> Secuity Settings -> Change Password you can set the password from there, or you can use the default with is 0000. :)

I've had that happen a number of times while playing single player games, since (I think) the 1.9 update. *shrug*

I couldn't even find the Trend Micro thing to even install it, tho I'm not that worried.

I've had a few more crashes than usual, no doubt there'll be some hotfixes (2.01 or something)

these things tend to iron themselves out

well... you say that, look at 360 :p rrod is still a big thing even 2 years or so

No problems at all. I never got into warhawk and don't use the web browser unless I open it by accident so I don't know if those are working, but everything else is same as always.

i'm not sure if this is because of the firmware or not but even since the update whenever i watched streamed movies or shows on my PS3 using TVersity it seems to pause halfway through and i won't continue. And when i try to watch it again, it stops in the exact same place. Is this happening to anyone else?

Some have reported this, yes. Our soon-to-be-released stability patch should cure this.

I managed to get this working again by downloading the new version of TVersity which supports 2.0.

Ah yes, should have mentioned that to you as well. I was having problems with the prevoius version of TVersity and 1.90, but the new version runs smooth as silk with 2.0.
