Wal-mart employee leaks secret PS3 + Blu-ray movies sale

Recommended Posts

On 11/24 at 8:00am (running through 11:59pm on 11/25), the 80GB PS3 ($499) will come with 10 FREE Blu-ray movies instantly. You choose any 10 BD titles under $30 within the store and they will override the prices to zero. For those stores that carry BD already, additional titles are being sent in for the sale. For those that do not have BD in their store (a small minority) product will be sent to each store specifically for this sale.

Oh, and you still get your 5 FREE movies by mail.

From the person who leaked the news

It's one of the 4 planned "Secret Sales" for the holiday season, stores were just notified today. You won't see a link up until around Wednesday. I could print off the page from work and throw up a picture of it, but that's a little too risky for my comfort level.

If so then thats a whole load of movies! I'm sure there will be a decent collection to choose from. Still, if each person takes 10 away, that's a lot of stock leaving Walmart. Better be quick if you want choice :/

Seems like the Blu Ray camp are desperate to get movies out there! Shame Walmart numbers don't count :p

I suppose in a way this competes with the cheap end HD-DVD players. Instead you get a "top end" Blu Ray player, a PS3 and a potential of 15 movies for $399.

they need some 2 or 3 for 1 for current BD owners, why should new owners get all the fun? :/

Early adopters always get screwed....good things come to those who wait!...if you wait long enough you'll always get a better deal.

Too bad the movies come with a PS3  I kid I kid

IF this was available in PR i would buy the PS3,but as always we get the short end of the stick. Then try getting a cheap/good 1080p TV,feels like an oxymoron to get Blue Ray with some old ass Sony Wega.

God... 10 movies at $30 or less, that's a maximum value of 300...

Plus 5 movies by the mail? All these movie alone make the cost of another PS3...

So it's almost like getting the PS3 free

I doubt it will make a big difference. The price is still fairly high and most PS3 owners don't use it for movies.

Good luck to them, but they need to lower prices for the players themselves.

The PS3 is the top end? I hate to break it to you, but it's as top end as the DVD player in the PS2 was. The PS3 is the cheap BD player, not the top one.

No Raincheck and quantities are Limited .... I'm sure this will be the case with this "deal". Just a hunch on my part, I don't work or know anyone working at Wal-Mart. And haven't stepped in one in over 2 years. :p

I don't understand why this isn't receiving more attention than the earlier HD-DVD offer. Its clearly a better offer value wise.

I don't know... the 80GB PS3 is $500, the Toshiba A2 was $100. *does math* Something tells me it's not....

add in multiple free movies, additional audio playback codecs, plus game play capabilities and all of a sudden this is a better deal. Its an apple to oranges comparison but in the end it still smoking.

I don't think comparing it to the PS2's dvd capabilities is very fair. Sure it's not as quiet, easy to use, lacks multi-channel analog outs, and isn't as visually appealing in a media rack as the top blu-ray stand-alones, but it does what counts most right. It has quick load times, and image and sound quality as good as any other player. The PS2 was a pretty mediocre dvd player, while the PS3 is a more than competent BD player. It had some issues at the start (not passing btb or wtw, no dvd upscaling and awful dvd output with no 3:2 pulldown, and no 1080p24), but most of them have been ironed out and now I think most owners are just hoping for DTS-HD MA support and further updates to the already very good upscaling for dvds.
