Temporary Fix For PS3 Assassin's Crashing

Recommended Posts

Monday 19-Nov-2007 2:03 PM Just turn off a pointless FW 2.0 feature

There is supposedly a fix for PS3 owners that have whipped up the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed this weekend only to find it crashing frequently.

Reported earlier, many of the game's bugs on the PS3 version have been (unofficially) linked to the FW 2.0 update, which is said to have been causing all manner of problems since its release.

But according to bloggers, PS3 users can fix some of the issues temporarily simply by disabling the Information Board on the 2.0 FW front-end menu, and disconnecting their PS3 from the (online) PSN while they play Ubisoft's adventure.

This will apparently cut down the frequency of the crashing.

Let us know if it works for you in the comments below, and sit tight for Sony's 2.01 update soon, which should sort out all the problems so you don't have to fool around with system options.

I pressume this goes for other games which have been crashing since the new fw. Shocking they still haven't released a small fix to at least correct this issue (N)

Yes Drunkn - I'm sure we will never see a fix for this... Come on now. A statement has been made already regarding such a fix. And yes, most current issues with all games relate to the information board feature being on. Turn it off and play happily for another week or so... ;)

im going to be the first to say...

"you could fix it by buying a 360"... not funny...

i personally haven't had any problems with FW2

+1 - havent had any issues either.

Disabled remote wakeup and the information board.. Saw no use for them...yet

Did I say they'd never fix it? No. I said it was shocking how long they took to fix it. Anyway it's not a problem anymore since 2.01 is out now, assuming it fixed issues and didn't break anything new ;)

How long they took to fix? its only been a few days :s

Anyways, COD4 players are reporting that 2.01 broke something - you cant start a new character (whatever that is :s)

Im having no issues with multiplayer (with 2.00 or 2.01)

Seems early adopters get rewarded :p

Without turning this topic to hell, in comparison, it would have been in a lot less time on the 360.

But anyways, like you said, there is still problems, so they rushed it in the end as well.

I bet you it would've taking the same amount of time.

Well, we'll never know for sure, seeing as the 360 is so super awesome and didn't have this wide scale problem

I kid I kid :p

But yeah, sloppy update, followed with a sloppy fix. Not good, no matter how you spin it..

Well obviously it was buggy. We won't know all the details unless Sony publish them, which is unlikely. Love how so many of you are sweeping it under the rug like it didn't happen to people  zomg a fault on your precious machines! Never! :o

Anyways I'll be installing 2.01 later. Hopefully my PS3 doesn't turn on like it's possessed anymore.

:sleep2:

Whats all this fuss about?

I find it got fixed rather quickly. 2.0 clearly had a lot going on, and it's unfortunate bugs slipped through. Sony are providing us with regular updates, even if it is only 1 or 2 new things a month.

You have to give time for the exact issues to be pinpointed, fixed and then tested before you roll out an update. If this was all done in a few days then jeeez thats a perfectly respectable timescale.

I must disagree - 2.0 did wonders for me

I have no idea why some are having problems, seems neither are sony

I would like to point out that that statement would be like me saying that because my December 2005 Xbox 360 hasn't RROD'd, that means it's not a problem, or that it's not Microsoft's problem.

It's obvious that Sony didn't do enough QA testing on 2.0, but it's nice that they did get 2.01 out decently fast.

I think you misunderstood me.

Im saying that Sony apparently arent very good at their firmware job since they have no idea what is causing these errors, when they keep coming in newer firmares :s

The time scale they got the new update out is debatable. But there is reports of bugs with COD4 still and consoles actually bricking when upgraded from 2.0 > 2.01. That's what is worrying the most.

If it was within a few days I think that is still harsh. The game was playing as far as I was aware... it's just it would crash or freeze occasionally.

Also consoles bricking as in completely dying? :/

I haven't read that yet.

Yup I read some topic over at Gametrailers where the guy upgraded from 2.0 to 2.01 and it bricked. Because he couldn't find the receipt, he's pretty much screwed as well.

IMO, a fix should have been released in a day at the most possibly. Game updates can take days to weeks which is fine because it's not down to Sony/MSFT/Nintendo to provide those, but their own firmware is a different matter. And like I said, the fact problems still exist is still bad.

Meh, my opinion, not trying to change the world :p

One thing I hope you do realize is - there's always somebody with a "bricking issue" ... every single release. A perfectly, fine tuned release can be in our hands and you will still be able to scour the Playstation forums and find a few "Buggy Release Bricked My Console" threads.

The time between releases seemed pretty prompt to me - then again, I didn't have a single issue to begin with. Odd how it all works out with various users.
