PS3 Orange Box is a mess

Though, yea it is probably a mixture of the two, PS3 isn't very popular in the press these days, and with the popularity of the 360, alot of multi format Developers are focusing on the easier more profitable machine. Which does make some sense.

good coder = not lazy developers

so long as the developers get the coders to take time and do a proper job of porting then there would be no problem with ports, instead of going for the quick buck.

WTF with all those Framerates problems on the PS3?

Doesn't Assassin's Creed actually have _better_ framerates on the PS3?

Success isn't everything, but as far as the topic goes, there are way to many half assed ports to the PS3. I just hope Unreal Tournament isn't one of them.

Considering Epic's track record and that they said they wouldn't release it until it was ready, I'm guessing it'll be fine. Most previews said it was running smooth.

Regarding CoD4, from what I have read IW had to put their best coders on the PS3 version just so they could get it up to standard.

Yes, its the internet, so it could be BS, but if true, then what could it have looked like if the best coders were put on the 360 version?

So there's 2 sides to this one. Good PS3 games have "good coders" working on them, the rest are just "lazy devs"?

Don't you think it's possible there's more to it than that?

If you look at the games released on both platforms, as a rule of thumb (although it's not always the case), the games designed with the PS3 in mind seem to perform just fine on the system, but the games ported to it later have trouble.

This may not be anyone's fault in particular. The PS3 has a vastly different architecture than anything before it, porting existing code isn't as easy as all you "lazy developer" people claim it to be, especially when you're porting it to a system it simply wasn't designed for.

To do a proper port, I mean the way we'd all like, you'd practically have to recode the entire engine, something that's simply not going to appeal to most developers, it just wouldn't be cost effective, so they have to get a middle ground, where the game works and is playable enough.

It's not fair on PS3 owners and it's not ideal, but a lot of that blame does lie on Sony for picking such an unusual architecture for their console.

However, if you design a game with the PS3 in mind, then you wont run into these problems and thus future titles shouldn't suffer from all of these issues.

You're thinking of the recent news they released regarding the upcoming patch for the PS3. They said they have put all their best coders on fixing the multiplayer.

Just imagine how well the PS3 managing the crowded areas.

I've been playing on the PS3 version and I haven't noticed any problems with it rendering crowded areas.

lol, compare graphics with Uncharted, which runs pretty damn well with best graphics i've seen on a console to this. Seems HL developers have no idea how to code stuff for the PS3

It is EA that have torched this project.

EA don't have a great track record with the PS3 either - A lot of people projected disaster when we found out EA were doing the PS3 port.
